Hi,
Can I use paints from different manufacturers on
one model? How about different types, like enamel
and acrylics, water-based, thinner-based etc… of course
i am not mixing enamel paints with acrylic paints but I
mean on different components or parts of the model I
might like to use different paints due to the limit of
color range from one single manufacturer.
Will there be any reaction of any sorts?
So long as the paints are completely dry it shouldn’t
react with each other am I right?
I can only answer to the experiences that I have had. I use mostly Tamiya acrylics and have had no trouble using Model Master acrylics on the same model. The majority of my base coats are Tamiya with details painted in MM. On the flip side I have had trouble with Tamiya acrylic and Gunze acrylics. When one was painted over the other, the surface cracked all over the place.
I have had no trouble using paints from different manufacturers on the same project, nor have I had trouble using enamel and acrylic on the same project. The key is to let them cure COMPLETELY, and erring on the side of caution! Whereas if I’m using two different colors of, say, Poly Scale Acrylic, I let it dry for an hour or two. But if I’m going to put down Model Masters Acryl right next to it, I’ll give it a full day just to be safe. If I’m going to use an enamel next to an acrylic, I’ll even give it 48 hours. Overkill maybe, but I’ve never had any problems.

i have no problem using different brands on the same models…the KEY words is CURE… let it cure completely before applying another coat of paints…
