Using Blacken-It on Karaya tracks?

I asked this question quite some time ago, but at the time I don’t think many people had much experience with this–how effecttive is Blacken-It for weathering/blackening Karaya metal tracks? I know it works great on Friul, but I think the Karaya tracks, which are an aluminum/tin alloy, to my knowledge, contain a higher percentage of aluminum. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

Rory

I recall very clearly that one of our fellow members successfully tried the Karaya blocks and they blackened just fine. I can’t for the life of me remember who it was, but I remember the thread.

Thanks…I had the reply somewhere in my Favorites, but lost them all when my hard drive took an ungracious dive to the pavement. I hate it when that happens.

Hi all just a quick question were do you get blacken it from.I only got back into modeling about a year or so & things have changed so much.I mean i,ve out of it for about 24 years( so there has been a lot of changes )[%-)]

I purchased Blacken-It from my LHS, but you can buy it from www.micro-mark.com, $6.95 USD for 4 oz. Thay should be able to ship to the UK; however, I’m sure someone more local to you must carry the stuff. Good luck!

Alan,

I don’t know about the UK, I suppose you can order it from one of the big internet houses. For all the blokes in the states, save yourself a bunch of money and go to Wal Mart or to your local gun store and buy the cold blue solution, it is the same formula and is much cheaper than the marked up “blacken it” sold buy our gouging retailers in the model commmunity.

Many thanks Steve. Did not give that a thought, got to go to one this week before i can go & do some clays.
