I love clear paints and utilise them a lot on my kits to more than just to the normal tinting.
We are all aware of the different uses of those colours, just for a reminder I will list the most common usages:
1.) Orange for Indicators
2.) Red for tail-lights
3.) Green for tinting of aircraft/helicopter windows
4.) Smoke for Bike screens
5.) Yellow, Orange and blue for discoloration from heat on exhausts
6.) Yellow for Fog light lenses.
7.) etc.
These colours can also be mixed and “thinned” to get different colours, mix clear & red and you get pink, etc.
Here are a few other uses I found:
1.) Smoke Blue on headlight lense makes them look more like those new blue lights.
2.) Spraying clear colours over metallics can give you a much nicer and better look than using pre-mixed metallics. Smoke over Aluminum makes for a great frame colour on custom Bikes, etc.
3.) Clear colours can also give “depth” to a finish.
4.) Simulating algea in a pond, used that successfully in a Dio.
Paint steps were as follows: Dirt(earth colour), 2 coats of clear green handbrushes, filled the pond with 100% clear water.
The more I use and experiment with those colours the more uses I find for them.
