I have been out of modeling for 20 some years. I am now getting back into it and am reading a lot about using super glues. Is the the super glue that you buy at any store with like 2 sml tubes in the package, or is this like tenex or weld on

Yup, it’s the same stuff. (edit - well, at least at it’s heart it is… the stuff in the tubes is often too thin, so a lot of folks go with a thicker brand like zap a gap)
Super glues are also known as cyanoacrylates. The adhesive actually bonds the two pieces together much in the way most people think glue works.
Tenax and weld on are solvents. They essentially melt the plastic for a short period of time. The resulting bond is more of a chemical welding process than a gluing process. Testors glue in the orange tube works on the same principle.
adara - yeah hobby CA is like Ck said… best to buy a bottle of hobby CA though and you will be much happier with the results… typically a lot of people use something like Tenax and Ambroids for long seams and Model MAster cement for sticking on detail pieces… CA comes in handy for putting PE and other metallic/non-plastic pieces on a model. (like resin cockpits) although I know a few people here who do exceptional modeling that use CA almost exclusively…
Tenax, Ambroids and the like are to weld the parts together as already mentioned… it helps get some mighty tight seams with little need for flilling on most kits because you can work an inch or so at the time to get it lined up…
