Use of "STAY BACK" signs on vehicles in Iraq.

One sees lots of photos of “STAY BACK 100 Meters” signs for example on Humvees, APCs etc. in Iraq. Does anyone know if they are used on Abrams tanks in urban settings, and if so how they are mounted?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you have links to photos of this, even better.

I have never seen one used on an Abrams. I think it is because Abrams are not really used to patrol streets and most people will stay away from an Abrams since it just looks pretty mean and deadly.

Ditto… Never saw it, although can’t swear it never happened, but that don’t mean it didn’t happen SOMEwhere, perhaps in a convoy… Most likely placement would be on the bustle rack though, since the exhaust on the M1 would probably set a sign on fire back there on the hull…

In 2004, we never used them on our guntrucks. We pointed a 50 Cal at them and they stayed back.

I think these where made locally and purchased unit by unit. We never got a directive to use them.

The ones I saw on tanks and strikers where zipped tied or wired on. No special mounting bracking brackets.

Thank you guys. Since it was an impromptu sort of fix, I might take some liberties and affix one to my Abrams model anyway.

Nuttin’ wrong with a skoshi-bit of artistic license… Like we said, just 'cuz nobody saw it, doesn’t mean that nobody DID it… Personally, I think it adds an interesting yet subtle touch and immediately tells the viewer what’s going on and where…
