USAF Trainers WWII

I would like to build models of all the aircraft I flew during WWII. I like to start with my trainers, PT!&, BT13,AT^ & I believe a beech twin engine trainer. I have little access to hobby shops and probably will have to get them online if possible. I have gone to several hobby web pages, but these aircraft are missing.
I’d appreciate any info relative to kit availability of these aircraft & primarily in plastic.
Any help is appreciated.[:)]

Monogram just re-released their T-6 Texan kit, and it’s a great build. Cost is about $13 at most hobby shops. The other two (PT-17 & BT-13) should be able to be found. In your web browser’s address bar, just type in either of those two aircraft (or you can use Yahoo!, or Google to do the same thing), and you should get a multitude of listings for them, including kit makers. Hope this helps you out. Good Luck!!

Waltcor, here are a few kits I know of. I built the AT-6 and the PT-17 and both are decent kits. I do not know about the AT-11 kit. Good luck in your search. I would be very interested in hearing about your experiences. I have the utmost respect for those of you have served our country as my Father did in WWII.

I saw one fly over recently and it was absolutley beautiful… it was painted a color close to international orange with navy markings… but it was sweet!

as for the AT-6, Testors makes it in 1/72 and Monogram makes it in 1/48… havent built either yet even though they sit on my closet shelf. I plan on using one for my Latin American group build, the 1.72… so will update you if you want on how it goes together… either should be available from www.squadron.com or www.greatmodels.com as I got both at Hobby Lobby here…

The best AT-6 in 1/72 is from Academy. Occidental Replica released a very nice 1/48 T-6 a few years ago, which is now marketed by Heller. The Monogram kit is also a nice build.

If you’re looking for trainers, you have a large assortment to choose from. MPM and CzechMaster have a number of trainers available in 1/72. Hobbycraft has an older AT-11 kit. You can either use the old Revell PT-13 or the new one from Pavla. The PT-13, 19, 20, 22 are all available from different manufacturers. So is the BT-13. The T-6/SNJ is available from Academy, Heller and the old Hawk/Testors version too. There are a few of these available in 1/48, but the vast majority will be available in “braille scale”. Check with Squadron GreatModels, ScaleHobby or other vendors. They’re out there. I have them all! [;)].

The twin Beechcraft C-45 was used for multi-engine training, as well as navigator training and bomber training. It is derived from the Beech -18 which there is a kit available. I can’t recall the scale of the Beech 18 or the kit manufacturer. PM Model has both the C-45 and the AT-11 available in 1/72nd scale.

There is an old Lindberg kit of the Stearman in 1/48th scale that should be available. Pavla Models has a kit of the Stearman PT 13/-17 (Kaydet) in 1/72nd scale. The PT-20 is still available and is an old Hawk kit that I think is now boxed by Testors in 1/48th scale. MPM released the PT-20 in 1/72nd scale.

As stated above the AT-6 is available in 1/48th scale by Revell/Monogram. There is at least one other 1/48th scalre kit of the AT-6, and Heller made a 1/72 scale kit of the AT-6. All lof the aforementioned should be available through Sqaudron Models and Great Models. Both have web sites.
