USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio April 2015

Here’s some of the photos I took at the USAF Museum, there is just to much stuff to photograph(unlike at the Patton Museum), plus the hangers are huge. I used a Canon EOS Rebel T3i DSLR, with a EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens. All photos where taken on a tripod with a shuttle remote. ISO 400, 3.6 to 1.6 second exposure & F16 for the aperture. A good amount of the aircraft have enough light for the camera to auto focus, and all photos where taken in RAW format. This is just a small amount that I took, more to come. [H]

Beautiful pictures

Oh my gosh, I always wanted to go there (two travel days for me). Bring on the pics, as much as you want!!!

Dan,

Great pictures. I plan on heading up one weekend next month. Where do you live in Cincy?

My Father took my there after I joined the A.F. when I got my draft notice. It was a whole lot different then. Many aircraft were outside and you could walk up and touch them.:

What a great set of photos, thank you for sharing.

Toshi

Hey Dan and Ikar, great photos, thanks for sharing with us. I’ve been twice but now I want to go back again!

You could always post them in the reference section on the forums. That’s what I did with all the pics I took from the Ordnance Museum here on A.P.G when it was still here.

You can never get tired of visiting there. Just too much to see.

Awesome place. I can get there in 3 hours. I’ll go again when the Memphis Belle is done…

I have a bunch of photos from there back in the late 80’s when I was there in the AF. I’ll dig them up. Some of those are still there, others I see are newer.

ARRRRGH I used to live about 2 hours from there. Now that I have restarted my modeling addiction, I have an 18 hour drive ,since I moved to Wrinkle City, Florida.

Thanks: Crown R N7, Toshi,

Modelcrazy: The Museum is well worth a trip, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks Hogfanfs: I live near the west end of Cross County Highway, where it merges with I-275 Interstate(Colerain Township). The Museum is about a 55 minute to an hour drive for me.

Great photo’s Ikar01, have not seen many photo’s of the collection when they had it outside before the hangers were built. The Giant XB-70 has been there a long time.

Thanks Gamera, the place is awesome.

They are building a fourth Hanger, that will hold the aircraft that’s been in the Wright Brothers hangers on the Airforce Base. Scheduled to open spring of 2016.

All my photos are from the Wright Patterson AFB Museum. So, I may have something unusual there. Gotta get those out. I’ll post them once I find them.

Great pics of some fantastic planes. Thanks for sharing those. I’ve wanted to go there ever since I learned the one and only F-22 on display is there at that museum. Someday…

Don’t want to distract from your thread but I stumbled on this a few days ago and thought you might get a kick out of it. It’s click the link while on your smartphone and move your phone around, look towards the ceiling, zoom in etc.

Thanks Joe, that’s awesome. I love panoramic sites like that. Good luck on your A-10 BTW if you have any problems just ask a question in the aircraft forum and sit back and watch the answers flood in. Sometime the thread takes on a life of its own…kinda like this one.

Great pics! I just took a trip out there this past weekend. Pictures really don’t do it justice, there is just so much to see there. So cool to be close to all those awesome aircraft!

I’ve told this before somewhere, but in 1983 I was in the 5th F.I.S. at

minot. The squadron commander assigned me to hit up the pilots and others in the building for donations to build the new structures. I imagine that this was common with all the flying squadrons in the Air Force.

BrandonK: Are you talking about the Wright Brother hangers? The R&D and Presidential aircraft? Have not been in there in a long time. They closed those two off at the beginning of this month. For preparation on moving the aircraft to the new fourth hanger.

Thanks Air2AirJoe: Yes they do have a F-22 Raptor on display, it’s in between the Korean War and Southeast Asia War gallery. That is very true about the A-10 over the F-35.

Thanks Rooster513, yeah the place is so huge and there’s just to much to photograph.

Ikar01, Not sure if that’s what there doing to raise funds for the forth building. But I would imagine they would do something like that to help out.
