Hi, I remember I read a thread somewhere that talked about F-16 colors but for the life of me I can’t seem to find it again. Anyway, I’m just about to start my Hasegawa 1/32 F-16 and was wondering if the current F-16 still carry the old 3 tone grey scheme or just a 2-tone now. If it’s a 3 tone scheme would the following colors be right:
Tamiya Colors:
Belly = AS-26 (light ghost grey)
Wings + Main body = AS-27 (Gunship Grey 2)
Front body around cockpit = AS-7 (Neutral Grey)
Also, I can’t seem to find any Neutral Grey made by MM, did they discontinued it?
Hello Im mechanic on F-16s In USAF. Most current Operational F16s are two tone. WE have Block 50s and Block 40s. Most grey jets i have seen in USAF are light grey on the belly and a dark grey on top with the vertical tail the same color as the belly starting at the base of the tail. The radome sometimes is a shade between the two. One of our jets came back recently with RAM paint. SAME tow tone color but upclose it has metal flakes in the paint. You can use those colors you have. here is a pic of how ther are painted state side. Remember the way they are painted depends on the base and their misson requirements. so there is no specific anwser.
The Hasegawa is an old but good kit. As far as I remember its a Block 5 or 10. I don’t know how USAF painted their aircraft back then.
I Denmark we still operate our old block 10 and 15’s, although they have been updated a lot.
Most of our planes are in the old 3 tone sheme, but sometimes the dark grey extends all the way forward to the radome.
hikarux;
Well it’s which time frame & version you are doing, the USAF Falcons flown today are of a 2 tone Neutral Gray FS 36270 and Gunship Gray FS 36118, the earlier versions had 3 (or 4 if you count the radome) the 2 I stated with Light Ghost Gray FS 36375 and the radome is Aggressor Gray FS 36251
