I had hoped to get this Tamiya 1/72 spit project done today but there were too many domestic tranquility issues to attend to. It will be Sunday until I get back to it but it has been decaled and awaits a little exhaust staining, radio wire, and of course the final flat finish. Its mostly OOB except for adding the stubs for the Mk Vc’s second set of wing cannons that were not installed or removed from most Mk Vc’s. Paint is Model Master Azur Blue, Dark Earth and Polly Scale Enamel British Middlestone.
I’ll post completion photos Sunday night I hope!
Happy Modeling!!
Thanks very much Jay…It’ll look better once the flat finish goes on…I always hesitate to photo a kit at this stage because the gloss finish looks so wrong!
thats one sweet looking spit joe!! i’m a sucker for camo jobs!! what did you mask with? i just left the bench to come to the computer to see what was going on and i too am applying a camo job. its sea camo and i’m “roughing” in the colors and i just got finished. again, nice work friend. i’ll be waiting on the edge of my seat til’ sunday so i can check it out. later.
Hey Chris (Saltydog)…glad you like it! I masked it with tape since I still haven’t got around to getting some silly putty. That method looks much easier than the tedious process of templating and cutting making tape that I’m using now. The results are good but its a slow process. I’ll be sure to get those completed pics done ASAP…I don’t want you falling off your seat! [:D]
LOL, i hear ya Joe, silly putty is aggreviating as well!! its hard for me to shape properly!! then, i hear that parafilm M is the most excellent masking solution so i paid $8 at the LHS for a roll like a dummy and dont’t even like it!! oh well, i free hand most of my camo jobs, but i have a British bird in the sanding and filling stage and it will need the hard edge. i’m trying to find some blue tack to mask with but everybody at walmart or hobby lobby look at me like i just escaped from the HA HA Hotel when i ask which isle its on!! i too may be using tape and templates!! later.
Hey salty I use parafilm m to good results. After you stretch put it where ya want it if it doesnt “tack” up hit it with a blow drier on low for a couple of seconds, works well.
Looking good [tup][tup]. I mask almost the same as you, except I cut the masks from heavy paper rather than tape. Seems to give a very slightly softer edge than tape. I’ve also tried Blue -Tac, but haven’t quite got the hang of it.
Chris, You’ll find Blue-Tac, or one of several similar brands, in most stores that carry office supplies. Our local Walmart carries a product called Handi-Tak which is the same basic product. It’s real purpose is for hanging very light materials, like posters, on walls.
