US CARRIER AVIATION GROUP BUILD 2013

Understood [;)] I know that it is a healthier choice.

And here is the latest on my Scooter- fueslage assembled

and a few shots of the cockpit now… much more confined and difficult to see all that work…

Looking very good, Stik! She’s strating to look like a plane now!

Good news! Your tub fit (or you made it fit!). Looking good, Stik. The visible detail, and there is still plenty of it, looks even better now.

You know its that stage of the build that I dislike the most (and this looks great BTW) and I’ll tell you why. There ain’t nothing prettier than a cockpit thats all painted up and detailed, a firewall or engine that’s all decked out to the max and lookin’ Bad A or an access panel interior with all the bells and whistles installed with the fuselage halves “open”. I am just initially apprehensive about covering all of that beautiful detail up but know in the end that its all going to look great later. I will say this though, good job here-

You know guys, after all I went through to build my SBD with the decals I had and waiting for those Yellow wings squadron number/ letter decals to get to me in the mail, guess what came in just yesterday? Any guesses??? Hasegawa did come through after all!!!

Although this is a sheet for 22-C-13 which I had initially planned on building (and I had a pic or two of that bird too) I’m glad I built -14. Oh well I’ll have em for next time I need em or if anybody else needs a set! LOL

Better late than never, right? LOL!

Cool that Hasegawa came through for you. I understand the late part though.

It gives you an excuse to do another…[whstl]

IHa hahaha! I’ve been giving thought to doing another but the next one will be from Accurate Miniatures. I may build another -4 but would like to build a -5. It won’t be until the latter part of this year or next year. I’ve REALLY given thought to a Val. Got lots of time to think about it.

What a kidder though!!! Ha hahahaha.[whstl]

As your GB host I have a few things to say:

First of all, I want to thank all of you for participating! You are an awesome group and make this GB so great for me to host!

I also want to wish you a merry Christmas! The christmas traditions here in Austria are a bit different than in the states, but i don’t think it’s too different. I hope you have a great time together with all your loved ones!

“Frohe Weihnachten” from Vienna!

…and a very Merry Christmas to you too Clemens.

Merry Christmas to you and yours as well, friend Clemens.

Thank you for making me feel so much at home. As my first GB, I’ll never forget this one.

Clemens, awesome GB! It was a hit! [:D[

Merry Christmas my friend!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays everyone! Hope everyone is having or will have an awesome Christmas!

Belated Merry Christmas everyone, and here’s to a good 2014. I’ve got a few adys leave and getting stuck into my Hellcat this morning.

Cheers

Tony

Lots of good work going on here, guys. I had almost a full week off around Christmas, but unfortunately came down with a nasty virus that’s put me on my butt for almost a week…Doesn’t look like I’ll get to finish this group build…back to work tomorrow if the antibiotics kick in…Yay!

Best wishes for everyone in the New Year! Thanks for the inspiration!!

TAD

Hope you’re all better now Dave.

Here are some progress shots of my 1/72 F6F-5N Eduard Profipack. I rate this as the best and most detailed 1/72 aircraft kit I have ever built. Wowwee !

I’m also going to use aftermarket decals for it. Aviation USK released a set a few years back for an F6F-5N where the white markings have been overpainted with light grey. Since I like to build different schemes so much, it suits me fine.

The cockpit and engine are very well detailed. The only extra work is to fill the slots in the wings for the rocket projectiles, as I’m not using them. (how come the slots are open if I’m not loading rockets, but I always have to drill them out if I want to use rockets ?) To fill the slots, I boxed in the area inside the wing with plastic strip, covered the outside of the holes with Tamiya tape, and poured some resin in. It fills the holes nicely once I peel the tape off. You can see it in the third photo.

I might run a couple of days into the new year, but not much.

Happy New Year everyone. Party starts in two hours here !!!

Cheers

Tony

Looks like you’re off to a great start, Tony! I’ll post the next round of this GB tomorrow, but you can finish her here as well if you waqnt to.

Hi all, I know I have been very quiet since August. Sadly I did not get very far with the Devastator, only managing to finish most of the cockpit. I’ll post a few pics here later.

If it is ok with you Schatten, I’d like to continue the build for the 2014 GB. My goal is to get it finished by April… now let’s see if I can.

Regards,

Rob

the Hellcat is ready for primer now. Forgot to take a photo with the current batch, so will post one next time. I’ve enjoyed adding the night fighter bits to it, makes it look different to all my other F6Fs.

Cheers

Tony

Tony: I’m looking forward to seing some pics!

Rob: Of course you can continue your build in the next round!
