Here are a few interior progress pics on my 1:72 Testor’s C-119 Flying Boxcar. This is an OOB build, and the detail is surprisingly good for this scale. Your comments and constructive criticisms are, as always, welcome! Thanks for letting me share!

11/23/06:
Happy Turkey Day to all! Just wanted to post a couple update pics of the Boxcar progress, my stupid camera messed up and I lost the interior prog pics I took prior to closing up the fuselage [V]! As you can see, the seams are pretty good, minor filling needed so far. I plan to attach the booms today after dinner (if I don’t fall asleep from the tryptophan!). Hope you all are having a great day!
Thanks for the encouragement, fellows, I think this is going to be a really fun build. I am planning to do the red and white over nmf bird, similar to the box art. This kit (so far [:-^]) is almost falling together! In my reference pics, I cannot tell whether the landing gear is white or light grey, can anyone shed any light on that? I started closing up the fuselage, looks like it will fit up quite nicely, additional pics to follow.
I also have the AC-119 gunship kit in the stash, which eventually will be in SEA camo.
It has been a long time since I have taken a close look at a “dollar nineteen”, but IIRC, the landing gear struts were unpainted, natural aluminum color. This was pretty much Standard Operating Procedure for USAF aircraft of that time period. The landing gear bays were generally the same color.
By the time Viet Nam rolled around, many USAF aircraft had white painted landing gear struts and bays. Some or maybe all of the AC-119 gunships could easily have been white.
This is a great kit. When I made mine several years ago, I did it with Thunderbirds markings as it was once the team’s support plane. It’s part of my Thunderbirds display. Looks like you are doing a great job.
Thanks for the kind words, all! [:I] It really is a nice kit and I am looking at Testors/Italieri with a new respect.
Darwin, thanks for the info - the only color pics I have been able to locate on the net are of SEA camo schemes, which look (to me, at least) to have int. grn. wheel wells, and I was sure that was incorrect for this model. Natural aluminum makes perfect sense, given the era of the a/c, and that is how I plan to go with this project. More pics to follow soon!
Actually, I didn’t need to do any mods on the bulkhead, I found the fit of this kit to be excellent, almost no putty used anywhere, no major surgery needed either. I was going to build up a 1:72 Jeep and acquire some scale barrels/crates for cargo, but never got around to it. I also have the AC-119 Stinger in the stash. and that one has a ton of interior details with the gun mounts and all. The only thing I did do was scratch build and install a cargo ramp, mostly to remove the need for some sort of tail post; this thing is VERY tail heavy.
I can’t tell by your picture but look a these. I’ve seen a couple of others that had done the same to adjust the rear section of the cock pit.
I’m using the Testors kits for both C-119G and the AC-119K.
Do you have a picture of that rear ramp? did you make it as part of the aircraft or ground support equipment? I can’t find any pictures of C-119 interiors. but, I wanted to put up some folded troop seats and other type of extra clutter to the cabin walls. Simulating wires and cables would be easy if I knew whereabout to put them, but extra gear I guess can just wing it.
