OK guys. here is an update on my F/A-18C. Pics are not that good since I have an old crappy digital camera. I did the entire primer coat with Tamiya L Fine Spray White Primer. Corrected all the flaws and fixed spots where putty chipped and resanded a few areas and primed again over those areas. There were huge gaps on underside of wings where fusalage halves went together, I used white thinned out white glue to fill in the gaps and let dry then I brushed over with Plaid white acylic paint to finish the fill, gave it a light sanding and then gave it another light spray of Tamiya Primer. Now I’m ready for preshading! [:D]
Critiques are welcome, let me know what you guys think.
Looks like you are making some good progress… I ‘m still chuggin’ away at my Eagle.I’m going to be ready to build a Navy Jet when I get it done, just so I can ‘dirty’ somethin’ up.Thanks for the update.
I’m actually feeling a bit intimidated with preshading since it will be the first time trying it. I dont want to screw up and have start over or worse… throw the model away. I decided that I am going to brush on the preshade, I’m not to sure about using my airbrush for this. I’ve seen many people here say preshading with airbrush is best but, I’m not that confident doing it with an airbrush yet. My airbrushes are cheap-o Badger clones and I’d give my left [censored] for a Paashe H airbrush since I have more confidence in using that. There seems to be no easy way to do preshading. I really fear making mistakes. I guess the only way to overcome this is to get it done. I just hope I dont mess it up.
The whole idea is subtlty by getting a feathered edge underneath the paint. Just get a piece of plastic out right before you preshade, and do a quick test right there so you know that’s what’s going to happen. Don’t let it pool in one line. It’s easy, and the line doesn’t exactly have to be perfect.
[#ditto]I agree with montana. But once you figure it out you’ll say to self boy that wasnt hard what was i affraid of. Its just when you go to paint it its recomended that when you A/B the color on Dont put heavy caots on the panel where you have pre-shaed or all that pre-shaeding will have been for nothing. Buts its looking pretty good to me keep it up.
[:O][oops] Now you tell me! To late now, I already started brushing it.
Method I’m using is here: http://www.cf-18.com/tech3.htm , and it doesn’t look bad. I’ll post pics of preshade when done.
BTW, I mentioned I had a crappy digital camera = crappy pics.[;)]
I still dont feel comfortable air brushing it with the airbrushes I have. I have Badger clones and cant get them to spray thin lines under 1/2 inch and brushing was the only way to get thin lines. I think it will come out OK. This guys method worked for him and he got great results. I should be fine as long as I follow the method. If worse comes to worse I’ll re-primer over it and skip preshading.

EDIT: I’m not preshading recessed panel lines guys, this is raised panel lines I’m preshading.
