I should just get this thing built as the contest season is starting. I have decided on markings of Hptm. Carganico 109 of II/JG 5 as it looked winter 1942.
Flaps/coolers that were cut away have now had some detail added, but have not been sanded down to scale or fitted with hinges.
flaps/coolers installed but needs detail painting and weathering work.
Front veiw of rebuilt nose oil cooler center actuator rod still missing will be added after paint work.
rear view of nose cooler showen in the full open position you can see rod, photoetch and scratch built goodies.
And another view of the cooler. the last time you saw this it was a pile of plastic and putty.
Veiw of completed front fuselage and gun hood minus guns. all fictious panel line have been removed and correct one rescribed. the bump/relief on the left side was done with a drop of epoxy sanded to shape. shell collectors were rescriber, reworked and refitted as well. The correct gun hood and coolers make all the difference in the looks dept. It now has a much more early 109G look about it.
veiw to top side showing installed slants, but now yet detail painted. gun hood work, formation lights in progress, and the 74/75/76 camo with worn temporary winter distemper camo over top.
After all paint work and weathering is done. guns, small detail parts and finish work will bring it all together. I still lhave to finish the rear cockpit area, landing gears and wheel wells. spinner and add supports and detail to the inside of the canopy. Finally decals and other small refinements and you now have a 109 that looks as good as any out there in 1/48 scale.
