Unseamly Panther...

Manny i had the same sort of thing last year on one of my sherman builds, I went to a show and won 2Gold and a silver my sherman getting 1 of the golds and a member of the same club that im in congradulated me but i could tell he was unimpressed as he failed to get anything on that occasion, well i went to two more shows and the Sherman picked up gold at both. Then it was time for our own clubs show and i entered the Sherman as it hadnt been shown there before and That certain person was judging the Armor section and wow and behold the Sherman failed to get a award which was no problem but when i went to collect my model he was there and said oh one of the bogies was out of line with the rest and thats why you didnt get any award. Well this was both strange as he jumped to his defence when i didnt even say any thing and as hard as i and a couple of friends looked at it there was nothing wronge and to top that another one who was judging with him won with a Tiger tank that was somewhat of an insult for even placing as it was like a novice build and shouldnt even be in compitition . So the moral of the story is why have people who havnt got the qualifications judging at all and some people are just purely jealous .I dont mind at all when a talented modeler wins a comp but that is not always the case ,ive seen loads of friends of judges win things that are not worthy and loads of talented modellers go home with nothing. Hense i never get involved when asked to judge a comp. Do you consider that person worthy to judge your work?

Exactly why I don’t enter these competitions anymore. I wouldn’t mind not placing; it’s happened many times. And most times when I didn’t place, it was because there were several better builds on the table.

But if you work that hard at something, put in all those hours and dollars and all that eyestrain to get it just right, and then you’re rebuffed because of a problem that the judge can’t actually show you…when you put in 25 hours to get the late-war, soft-edge pattern airbrushed just perfect according to your 300 reference photos - and then the ribbon goes to some guy who painted his Tiger with a rattlecan in 5 minutes (and got the tracks on wrong)…or when some knucklehead breaks off three parts picking up your build to see if you’ve painted the underside, and this is someone who refers to decals as “stickers”…too frustrating for me. I’m in this for fun. I’ll go and look at everyone’s models, and I’ll try to get to know the best modelers and pick their brain to steal their techniques (like do here). But I no longer subject myself to the odd little quirks that come with asking other people to judge my builds against those of others.

Sorry to rant - just my two cents.

Herr Manstein, perhaps you should cut the barrel off in a rough, flame-cut style up near the mantle and enter it as a de-militarized example? That ought to show 'em!

Damned nice Panther at any rate.

Ok, I will bite… is there a seam…anywhere??? This must be an inside joke [(-D]

when I first saw MR’s post I thought it was a joke. After looking at the pictures at least a half dozen times I still can’t find a seam!

Last, with all the comments on the near perfect Panther (nothing’s ever perfect) I think that just looking at the tank reflects on the contest judge’s credability! That tank would be welcomed on just about every shelf in the country (except the judge of course).

…hey, now there is an idea…
