UH-1H Sgt. Daniel Wilson memorial build.

This is Eschi’s 1/48th scale, labeled as a UH-1D, but has the correct antenna and pitot tubes for a “H” model.

One improvement was to thin down the front 2 part that are in the nose and also to bevel the hole to look like stamped sheet metal.
THINNED DOWN PARTS

Now that I installed these last parts I noticed a gap in the floor board

Made interior pylons

Use folded fine mesh screen to make upper engine screen

Found a lock washer a long time ago and though that is I build another Huey, it would make a great rear end turbine.

Use folded fine mesh screen to make upper engine screen

Cut open hole for cargo hook. We called this area the “hell hole”, because if you dropped a tool it could get real nasty. Also made a mount for the cargo hook.

Now to make lightening hole for seen framing inside hell hole. plan to extend hydraulic control tubes down fron swash plate. Had to trim base of transmission in order for tubes to reach down. Gary

I’m still researching the tail numbers. It might be in my Army logs that I have now that I think of it. It will look like this one pictured.
This is the person I remember most. Sgt Daniel Wilson, KIA in Cambodia 1970. He was a UH-1H crew chief that I flew with as a part time door gunner. He was killed while I was home on leave after I extended my tour of duty. Gary

More progress, Added screens

Detailed the collective lever.

Added armor plates to seats

Made control tubes w/ rubber covers.

Painted interior primer lt. grey and glued the front baffles to nose for better fit after they broke off.
Thanks for looking Gary

Looking good!

Hello Gary!

NIce lookin’ Huey - and you seem to know exactly what you’re doing building it! It’s the first time I see somebody cut out the hell hole. I have always wondered what’s inside it? Isn’t it ridiculous that no scale model of the Huey in any scale gets it right?

Good luck with your build and have a nice day

Paweł

Either Heavy Arty or Gino put up a couple of pics of the hell hole in Bedlam’s huey build here a month or so ago.

Nice build and a good way to honor the young man.

Yup, that’s me, one in the same. The “hell hole” pics are here, towards the end of the post:

They were actually in response to a request by Pawel.

Good looking build so far.

Hello!

Gino - thanks again for posting those! Maybe I should have written “I always wondered what’s inside the hell hole until Gino posted the photos” - I guess I have abbreviated it a bit too much

Anyhow - isn’t it funny that no schale model, even the large scale ones, have this feature done, and very few people correct this?

While building the Huey for my brother I have found, that just cutting the hole out and painting the insides black already helps the looks of the finished model a lot:

Great shot!!. That reminds me to add landing lights. I also have a hook made, but will install later. Gary

Added instruments and wiring to the rear of the instrument panel.Panel painted and hood extended.Top of transmission was cut down to lower collective lever. The rotor mast will have to be shortened also. Flight controls finally are completed. Thanks Gary

Hello!

Those innards look good! Good luck with your build and have a nice day!

Paweł

Excellent.

Made and installed seat belts, installed seats, collectives and cyclic sticks. Made from soda can, ammo can and a tool box to go under the crew chiefs seat. Also 3 smoke grenades. Gary

Gary,

That is one beautiful looking bird you have going there.

Ray
