UH-1C Decals (1/48)

I’m looking for a mean [}:)] set of Marine Corps decals for a UH-1C. They just have to be different from Revell’s Huey Hog decals, and I don’t require a shark mouth. It there a company who produces a good number of UH-1C decals?

Sorry Grant,
Can’t locate any decal sets for this model.

While doing research for the same kit, I eventually reached the conclusion that UH-1Cs were flown by the Army, Marines only had UH-1Es… try either replacing the C with an E or dropping it all together and you may have better luck.

[:(!] and I already have a nice aftermarket 1C set. I will find a Marine Corps. UH-1C.

Thanks for the info.

What is the difference between the UH-1C and the UH-1E. I do know that the UH-1E shared the rotor with the UH-1C in later production.[:D]

The Marines did have a few UH-1Bs or Cs (can’t remember which) that they got from the Army to make up for shortages but these stayed with stateside uints and didn’t deploy. The first UH-1Es originally resembled UH-1B. Later purchases resembled the UH-1C with the 540 rotorhead. Some of the previous ones were also upgraded. The major differences was use of aluminum vice magnesium to limit corrosion. External differnces were inclusion of a rotor brake, different radios, an external hoist, and different ordnance systems. For example, although the Monogram 1/48 UH-1C has Marine decals (for mid-70s) the ordnance system is for an Army aircraft. The Marines didn’t use the grenade launcher on the nose or that pod/gun combo. The Marines did have a chin turret (twin 60s) on some aircraft.

I’ve never seen a “mean” paint scheme on a UH-1E and know of no decals for one except those on the Monogram 1/48 kit. Again those are for a later stateside squadron altohugh you can use most of those decals for a hi-vis Vietnam version. Only noseart I have seen on the UH-1E are some small squadron specific markings such as the checkboard on the nose and or tail of the HML-167 aircraft and the unit emblem (Cobra) on the HML-367 aircraft.

For some example of these go to the USMC Vietnam Helicopter crew website at www.popasmoke.com.

[^] I’m loving the forums.

I’d just build the army version, but I have a Cobra Company resin correction kit, and
I’ve been asked to use the Marine decals.

Thank you for the help. I’ll come up with something.
