Uboat Captain Bust (pics)

This is a Verlinden product at 200mm scale - a resin kit which also came with a marble base. Except from the top view in which the face loses its symmetry (see last photo) I think it a great sculpted piece. I painted it with acrylics, adding a flat coat to the white summer cap and clothing while a gloss coat was applied to the cap visor.

Nice looking work Jack !!! Very nice indeed.[4:-)][4:-)]

I could only dream about doing a figure this good. Thanks for sharing.

Great work on that bust, Jack. Very nice.

Sherm: It is not too late to wake up and try it. What do you think?

[:p]Great work thanks for sharing.[:p].

Just one question, what brand of acrylics did you use?

Looks Great! I may have to give up on the 1/35th scale figures and try something a lil larger! Did you use Vallejo Acrylics?

looks good! great job on the well… everything

Splendid work, jgeratic! I especially like the flesh tones. Very subtle and very realistic.

Thanks everyone!
I mostly used Tamiya acrylics on this one with some other acrylic paints from tubes (the kind used for painting on canvas and they don’t have to be the most expensive) when it came to dry brushing. Busts are a lot easier to paint than 1/35 scale figures, firstly because the size gives you more “elbow” room. Secondly, well you are just concentrating on one figure as opposed to a whole kit of small ones. This particular kit had 4 pieces: cap, head, torso and marble base. This makes it a whole lot easier by taking advantage of painting before assembling. Except for the flesh tones which need to have subtle variation, the rest of the model is approached like painting a tank - base coat, washes, and then dry brush. Try it, you’ll like it.

All I can say is WOW! I have never seen anything that realistic before. Great job.

Looks great! Just need to find a U-boat in 200mm scale to go with it!
