U.S. Naval Aviation GB!

So I finally figure we have enough folks not overcome by “Mustang Fever” to start a Naval Aviation Group Build!
No period, or scale restrictions - just as long as it’s U.S. Navy. Even though I think it would be cool to do just the past 50 years of Naval Aviation [:)]

So far our flying squids are:

did I miss anyone?

let me know if you guys can think of a good badge and/or name for our GB! We can decide a closing date later.

Ray

When does this start? I would be interested once I finish a couple of the GBs I’m in now. Would the SB2C be acceptable or would I need to buy another kit?

roadkill, an SB2C is definetly appropriate. Is that a Helldiver?

Yes sir. Let me get finished with two or three of my GBs and you can put me down for the ProModeler SB2C-4 Helldiver in 1/48.

Nice subject! Have you dione any test fitting yet? I built the original release of that kit when I was a kid, when I saw the pro modeler release I was curious if the mold had changed.

I think a lot of folks are committet to other GB’s right now, so no hurry. I was thinking of making the cut-off 8/20 and the completion 12/31.

Ray

I think I’d like to try a GB. I’m just starting my first PM in 17 years. Put me in for the Tamiya F4U-1A, please.

I have naval aircraft galore. I also like to have multiple builds going on. Let me check my stash cause I’d like to get in on this one

I think a group badge having the coveted “Navy wings of gold” somewhere in the pic would be a good start. I think the biggest hurdle is finding a pic of an aircraft we all agree on.

Ray, I think this will be doable for me. The ProModeler SB2C is an all new tool. When comparing the two kits it’s like comparing a Ferrari to a Yugo.

I’ve got a 1/72 hasegawa F4F-4 wildcat sitting in the closet, this would give me some motivation to build it, depending on the timeframe and all that. Looks like a pretty simple build, but then again the hellcat I did a while ago took WAY longer than i thought it would.
In any case, I’ll keep an eye on this thread!

Count me in, I’ll start with a US Navy UH-1C gunship flown by the Seawolves. Probably add something a little more traditional further into the build as time permits.

I would be interested too. Either a f4u corsair (if WWII is ok) or a top gun a4 if the past 50 years idea really holds. Top gun would be ok right??
Leon

I’m definitly in, I’d like to get away from a prop and do something different. I have a
Tamiya F4U-1A Corsair that I might do aswell as maybe a jet of some sort, or even a helicopter. I’ll be back with details in a few weeks.

Finally this thing is lined up on the catapult!

Any U.S. naval aircraft kit will suffice. No period or scale limitations. From the gull- winged whispering death to a Top Gun Scooter, all are perfect!

A badge should certainley include the “wings of gold”, maybe as a watermark with the silhouettes of a WWII and a modern navy bird. Sort of like the sweet badge for the Mustang Ranch GB. Who does badges?

I will put together an updated list later today.

Ray

I belive I would like to get in this one [:D], Please. Love Navy Aircraft. I would like to do the “Artic Fox” an RP-3A Project Birdseye.[:I][:I][8)]
Thank you

Starting to wonder if it was ever going to make it out from the hanger deck!! [;)]

I am glad to see all of the folks joining in… the more, the better!! [:D][:D]

Grenadier, have you posted this on the GB thread? I think we have enough people joined in that maybe we should put a more permanent post on it. Anyhoo…[:-^] just a thought! [:D]

good idea Scot. Do I need to drop Lawrence a line or do I just post it on the GB?

I am really not sure about Lawrence… I definately don’t think it could hurt.

Ray, when is the finish date? i scanned the above posts, but i didn’t see it. let me know as i’m about to start a few naval aviation birds soon. later.

Hey Chris the finish date is 12/31/04 - same as the ranch build.
