I’m building the Revell 1/144 kit of the Type VIIC U-Boat. I want to make it into the U-552 circa April 1942. However, the kit allows an early or late version. Does anyone know what version the ship was in during Apr 42? Also, are there U-boat sailors (or something similar) available in this scale that I can pose on the deck? Any ideas on improving on the kit would be appreciated too.
Hi and welcome. The breakwaters were removed by May of 41. Net cutters were removed by the spring of 41. 1942 will make the Red Devil a late configuration. I suggest you visit this site if you really want to make it accurate plus you can verify the details there. Click on the library box and scroll down to the modifications on the Type VII:
Thanks! You are the first one to reply and that was exactly what I was looking for. Now I can proceed with my work on the kit. I did a lot of internet surfing to try to find the answer but wasn’t having any luck.
Glad to help. The AMP site is excellent and will provide a lot of detailed info. Another good site is Uboat.net. Good luck with the little guy. As far as a crew in that scale, the best you can do is N Scale railroad figures which you will have to modify so they can look right.
