U-2 Dragon Ladies (Pics redone)

The Lockheed U-2 has been a strange, enigmatic and exotic aircraft since 1955. Gary Powers’ shoot down by a barrage of SA-2 Surface to Air Missiles over Sverdlovsk, USSR, on May 1, 1960, brought the Dragon Lady out in public, much to the embarrassment of President Eisenhower. The U-2C has the bigger J-79 engine, (the original had a J-57), for much better climb and altitude capability. The two tone gray paint scheme was applied to those planes that were sent to RAF Mildenhall in the UK and Akritori, Cyprus in the late 60s and early 70s, in order to be politically correct.
My model of 66707 is 1/72 scale and made from the Academy kit. I will post photos of 66722 in the near future. [alien]

Nice job, interesting schemes ! Good work in 1/72 !
The U2 first flew about a week before I was born, so we’re about the same age (although I’m sure she’ll be more useful in the future than I will !)
Well done !

wow. that looks pretty good to me.

Wow, yardbird78![tup][^] U-2s done right! You picked some very nice shemes for these birds that make for a refreshing change from the relentless black. Thanks for sharing the pix with us!

Excellent work.

Great work yardbird [bow][bow]

Thanks for the kind words. I am especially pleased with the two tone gray plane. [alien]
