hey, ya’ll!!! this is my forst post on this forum, and i am reletiveley new to the hobby. quick question. on the Hawker Typhoon, do the underwings get fire/exhaust stains when the rockets are lausched? like the gunsmoke trails, and exhaust along the side of the plane. (like i said before, i am new to the hobby, and dont know all the technical terms for everything yet[%-)] anyway, any help would be appreciated, and maybe this weekend, ill post progrees pics of my F-117 nighthawk !(72) [:D] later!
[#welcome] Southern Dragon. I looked through my Squadron book Typhoon/Tempest in action and did not see any exhaust stains on any aircraft. Needless to say I’m not an expert and my references are limited so its a high probability that I’m wrong.[;)] Look forward to your pics[C):-)]
THANKS!!! i found a book at the library on modeling tips and found a great way to do all that cool smoke stuff!! i just hope i don’t go too far![swg]
central texas? my brother is an EMT in Dallas. (George Straight is from texas, right?)(a true texan would know that)[:D][#offtopic]
Before slapping great wads, of black, over your model, it would pay to watch some film, of a rocket attack. There were no great black clouds, the exhaust was, basically, white, and any residue should have been washed off, after the a/c returned. Many modellers have begun putting great black streaks, across wings, from m/g and cannon muzzles; it didn’t happen. “Erks” were too proud, of their charges, to allow them to get filthy; add to that they knew that any dirt slowed it down, so they’d keep it as clean as possible. One thing that you can do, though; often the landing light lens was replaced by a sheet of metal, because they found that the blast tended to wreck the glass.

thanks, edgar! but for the smoke, i dont use paint. i use a piece of newspaper, totillan(artists blending stub(found at micheals in 6 different sizes in a pack for a 1$)) and a pencil.(the darker tha pencil, the better(no.6B works best) i scribble on the paper with the pencil, then rub the stump-tip(tortillans are rolls of paper, so there tip can get flat, so dont use tip-tip of it, use the side of the tip) and then use tha stub like a pencil, and, going with the airflow, “draw” the smoke! it worked pretty nice on my typhoons guns, but the exhaust was over a dark green, so it didn’t show up very well. anyway, that is my tip of the day, and again, thanks edgar!
