This is the Hasegawa 1/48 Typhoon Mk.IB I recently finished. The kit was one of Hasegawas’ special runs, that included a 4 blade prop, otherwise same as their other Typhoon kits. Very nice kit and a pretty simple build. Markings are aftermarket decals from Aeromaster. Sort of a tribute to the old Monogram kit which I think included similar markings.
Hope you all like it, thanks for letting me share it.
Chris & Karl, weathering is a matter of personal choice and I prefer my shelf sitters in more pristine finish, unless in a diorama where it is certainly appropriate. This AC was an early post war bird, so it hadn’t seen combat. The light blue on the spinner is a pretty good match to my reference.
Great job on one of my favorite British attack planes. I also agree with you rjkplasticmod, I really dont weather my aircraft unless I too am building a diorama. Again thanx for the pics.
Nice build and nice pix too. With the multiple colors and the checkered section, that one will really stand out on the shelf - you gotta like that.
My LHS has 2 of those Monogram kits you talked about. I keep passing them up - mostly cuz I’m trying to limit myself to 1/72 scale and also trying not to just accumulate kits. But my resolve is weakening… Your post might just push me over the edge.
Falcon039, Bossman, chopperfan, 72cuda. Thanks guys for the comments, much appreciated. If critics bothered me I wouldn’t post pics of my humble efforts. All feedback is helpful, although it won’t change my mind on weathering. I guess I just like Factory Fresh.
Rick
Each to his own. I just happen to like a bit of wear and tear. It doen’t have to look like it’s been to hell and back, just as if it’s had some use. But if you like it clean, go for it.
Nice job! I’ve got a Hasegawa Typhoon waiting as well, and even though I prefer weathered finishes, mine also will be “factory fresh”. But then, I am intending to build it as the sole NF1B prototype
Hey Rick,
Sweet lookin build. What did you use for your panel lines. It stands out put nicely and at the same time it is not overly done…!!
Again build how you want to build. You have to be happy w/ the final results.
Again a nice job on the Typhoon.
Flaps up, Mike
Nice Tiffie, Rick ! I agree with you about weathering. I have done it to my builds before, but they really looked out of place sitting on a shelf. With a base, or as part of a dio (I do neither), it would look appropriate.
Nice job on the fuselage plugs for trhe cockpit. That can be a difficult area with that kit. Did you need to fill & rescribe, or did they line up well? My car-door didn’t align, but the bubbletop (partially started) was better. Did you do much drybrushing in the cockpit? Black interiors can get “lost.”
Well done !
stinger, chrisJH666, Butz, Dave, Pix, Thanks all for the feedback & comments. Much appreciated.
Butz, the panel lines on this one were done with Grumbacher artist water colors in Paynes Grey.
Pix, we share the same thinking on weathering. The fuselage plug lined up fine on this one, no filling or re-scribing required. My first build was the Car Door and I had some problem with that one. Don’t know whether its the differences in the kits or whether I got more careful on this one. The cockpit was painted Model Master Interior Black & dry brushed with a dark grey. I think I used Gunship Grey on this one. The pics don’t show it very well, but the cockpit actually looks pretty good in person.
hey rjkplasticmod,
I bet you like that new car smell too, and that’s why you like you planes to have that fresh factory look, and by the way do your planes have that smell too?
looks sweet rick. i love it!! the typhoon is my favorite ground attack choice when i play Combat Flight Simulator 3. you can really rip up some stuff with that bird (plus, the engine sounds great on the game). anyway, great looking typhoon. later.
