Hi everyone,
Keep in mind I’m very new at this. One of my sheets of decals, specifically the flags (Tamiya 1/700 Yamato) sheet, feels and looks like thin paper, and appears to have no backing. Are these decals, and if so, do I apply them like I applied the hull decals. If not, can I put them on the ship?

I have no clue, all i have ever used is silkscreen waterslide. But i would like to welcome you to the forum and tell you that no matter what, there is no such thing as a stupid question unless you didnt do a search or you already know the answer. Otherwise, just have fun.

they might be dry transfers, but I’m not sure…
if there’s like a copyright on them, cut it off and tape it to a spare piece of plastic, and rub against it, if the image transfers to the spare plastic, it’s a dry transfer… (MG Gundam models usually come with them, so I have some experience with them… )
where do I get that kind of plastic, and what gauge/type do I ask for?? And do dry transfers feel kind of waxy?
Right now, I’m thinking I’ll just cut them out and try adding a light adhesive… not decal solvent, but like watered down elmers glue (or is that just plain crazy???)…
That plastic is well, spare plastic from the model you’re working on now?
I believe they do feel like that… Anyone else out there that can help? I’m not good at explaining things >.<
If the decals are on a semi-transparent paper, kind of like tracing paper, and when you look at the waxy side everything is backwards then it is dry transfer(rub-on). You said though, they are flags, which probably would not be applied to anything but a line or pole. Are the images doubled so that you fold them around a pole to get 1 flag? If not, what do the instructions say ( tell me they included english!)

You described them exactly. And yes, they are double sided and get wrapped around. And no, there are no decaling instructions (in english anyways). Only the flags are like this, the rest of the decals were just the regular old, stick in warm water and slide off…
What I’m assuming is that water will make them stick together (should I put this on the ship forum??).
Definately put it on a ship forum. I would guess that, if the colour on the paper side shows through well enough, you would be required to cut them out, fold them around the pole or wire, get them in register and then rub them together, as pressing the two waxy sides together should make them stick. Of course, they may be meant to be transfered onto a small piece of cloth, one on each side to make the flag. I’m not sure.
You’d best find someone who’s worked with them before.
