Type of bombs as seen on the History Channel

As long as we are discussing bombs today……The History Channel aired a program a couple of weeks ago that included color footage of B-17’s and B-24’s dropping orange bombs with wide white strips on them. The bombs appeared to be 500 or 1,000 pounders. All the bombs in the load had the same paint scheme.

I thought this could add some color to a model if it’s legit.

Any ideas: type of bomb, theater of use, etc.?

Or, was the History Channel using editorial privilege and mixing in some training/practice runs with combat footage?

Jim, I would have to think that the ordinance you are asking about would have to be pratice bombs. It would seem that they would paint the practice bombs a different color than that of live ordinance. I looked through a book that I have on the Eight Air Force and could not find anything on live ordinance painted orange. Thats’ my [2c]worth.[:D]

Thanks for the research Mike.

I figured HC was exercising some editorial privilege…[:O]

The colour on the film may have 'gone off ’ with age.
It may have been brown or very faded olive drab.
