Type 94 46cm Main Gun Turret Number 1 - Yamato 1/72 Takom

Finally the model is finished

Took me alot of time, and space to displayed this model.

Thank you for watching, I have upload video painting this model, feel free to check out it my channel.

Wow! Very impressive build to say the least. When these turret kits were first released I asked myself "Why?’ but now I can see that they make into a truly impressive piece of ā€œartā€. Love the subtle weathering that you achieved. Any plans to add crew figures? Is there a Bismarck turret in your future?

yeah at first when they release i was like, why would anyone buy this? And here i am spending all my time painting it haha. and it would make a great corner to display it with an yamato model too.

Well done. I’ve seen a couple of these built up and really like the idea - such a key focus point for any big battleship. Great idea, pairing with a model of the ship.

Yeah I will be a great display when you have the ship model in the middle and some scale up gun, turret or superstructure display around.

Also - I didn’t realize how big of a model this is!

here 1/72 Shinden on top of 1/72 Yamato turret

Yeah, I saw that video. Love what you did to the deck. Makes me wish I had done that.

Yeah, The Yamato didn’t see much action and spent most of the war moored at a pier. The crew kept her pretty clean for something to do. Not to mention she was the pride of Japan…and still is.

Yeah all of the weathering is from my imagination because i dont have much photos of the real turret

Is there a option for the barrels as far as elevations? Some people, like me, would like them all raised, partly raised, or just level. How big is this model when assembled?

I remember, I was based at Kadena, the Japanese thought about actually getting the Yamato raised, repaired, and put on display, like they did with the Mikasa. Once they found and looked over the ship, the project died pretty quickly.

I did find some products about the crew but kinda expensive and have to shipping abroad. In this time shipping overboard take ages to reach. But i will complete it in the future

yes the kit includes 2 option for you to choose. each barrel have rises and nornal position. I like to make it as same as the box art so im only rises 1 barrel. You can rises 3 of them or just 2 or 1 in any possition or 3 of them in normal position

And the finish model includes the base is around 40x40. The gun barrel will stick put a lot. It can be around 60x40 if you included the length of the barrel

I keep seeing things on a Takom model of the Yamatos secondary turret for about 65.00 and it’s in 1/35th scale. Somehow this doesn’t seem right somehow. This would have to be a rather large kit in that scale and yet the cost seems rather low. Has anyone else seen this or have any knowledge of it?

The 1/35 scale is the newer release of the 3rd and 4th gun not this one. this one is 1st gun turret which is in 1/72 scale and that new kit is larger than this one too. you can build the 3rd or 4th turret or buy 2 of the kit to build 2 seperate turret

Need a crew to swab the decks?

You saying that got me to watch that vid. Agreed, that is awesome.

That was a great video. I feel confident I could do something very similar by following along. It came out looking super nice. Makes me think about actually buying a set of these I like them and seeing what you did they can definitely turn out nice

Yes but it was for the future because well its cost too much haha
