Two GB Concept Ideas...

I do like how informal the GB section is here.

Was wondering what people’s opinions are of these two potential concepts:

a) Skyraiders, any size, any service, any time period. and/or

b) Aircraft carrying marking between the Korean and Vietnam Wars (i.e. 1953-64).

My preference would be for the latter, but I’m not sure how many possibilities there are for that, in terms of AM decals (which would likely be a must for such a GB), nor how much interest there is in a relatively “quiet” period.

I’d also like the latter of the two, especially if it would allow a plane I’d like to get to over the next few months: F-86H Sabre, the final variant that never saw action in the Korean War.

As for the period, it may have been quiet from an official engagement standpoint, but werent there a bajillion planes developed in this period?

I’ll concur with you guys on the latter. I think for Korea, the options might be better than you think, since aside from the jets, there was alotta WWII aircraft that were used then too (ie. B29, F4u, P51, etc.) and i think they were in service after the end of the war

Sounds great. If we can drum up enough folks on this one, I’ll do a Skyraider in markings for the 1960/61 Lexington WESTPAC cruise. Nice hi-vis international orange over light gray.

I think there probably are lots of options here now that I think about it: lots of planes made famous in Vietnam were getting their wings (A-4 and F-8), lots of X-stuff still going on (wasn’t the X-15’s heyday in the late 50s?) and lots of WW2 stuff still around as DesertRat mentioned.

I wouldn’t be in on this one because I’m pretty sure my next 2 projects will be ships, but I just wanted to note this:

Think of all the awesome Century Series fighters with hi-vis paint schemes you could do for your between Korea and Vietnam group build. Sweet!

Great idea! I was hoping to do maybe a Voodoo or a Super Sabre with my Skyraider!

I dunno bout you guys, but a pure “Century Series” Group Build sounds like a pretty neat idea.

Flynavy,

I like the second idea as well. 1953 through '64 should provide multiple subjects for folks to choose from. I would be interested in joining this group build, but I need to know your start and end dates first. I think that we are about to pull out of the grip that winter has had on our area, which will allow me to start airbrushing enamels again. The importance here is that I am working on another group build that I want to finish before I jump in on this one, and I have to use enamel paints on the subject. Anyway, let me know your proposed dates, and if I can, I will pick a period appropriate aircrft for the build.

I was thinking maybe a little later this spring, maybe Mayish? And then running 9-12 months.

Given the timeframe, I’d most likely be a participant. I’d like to build the post war Sabre. GReat idea for a build. I’m sure oncve we near May, there will be more participants, especially if you put some PR over on the Aircraft forum.

hey all

Seems very interesting gb i wouldnt mind to join this gb but im not very familiar with Koran and Vietnam since i was not even born yet lol. Can some of you give me some aircrafts so that i can choice. All i know is B52, Intruders and skyraiders was used in Vietnam War.

I would go for the Korean War. There are interesting planes and armor. We can do Pershings, Corsairs, Shermans, Sabres, Migs. Just the thought excites me already. Let’s do it!

a) is good.

b) needs to be narrowed down A LOT. Could be anything from the EE Lightning to the Mig-21. Any thing in between? HHHmmm???
