It is so great when you get a chance to meet one of the members face to face.
This afternoon I had the pleasure of meeting wipw (Bill) while he was on a business trip to Edmonton from his home in Utah.
After finding out that I was a mere 1 1/2 hours from there we quickly arranged for a couple of hours of “treadhead” talk. We managed to squeeze in a quick visit to C.F.B. Edmonton and looked at some of the vehicles that they have on display there.
While at the base, I quickly corraled a poor unsuspecting desk clerk to take a picture of Bill and I standing, where else, in front of one of their Shermans.
So here ladies and gentlemen are shermanfreak and wipw.
I’m the one on the left.
Besides both being treadheads, we found that we have other things in common too like never having met a restaurant we didn’t like and apparently we have the same barber. [:p][:p]
Rut Roh! [:0] From an intelligence point of view, this isn’t good. Somewhat similar to Patton and Montgomery meeting in the field. I think a couple of us from the Axis should meet and possibly discuss strategy. You know, J-Hulk could be our far east ally! [}:)]
It’s kind of neat to put a face with the name. [^] That must have been a hoot for you guys. They (FSM) should make an area for photos of the members or find a way to include them in the member profile. Wouldn’t it be cool to have a members convention of sorts? [8D]
“It is well that war is so terrible, lest we grow too fond of it.”-R.E.Lee
Handy picture too lads… Now we get a perfect reference for our scratch built 1:35 Shermanfreaks… Going to be a tricky job to match the colour of the jacket, though…
It’s great to hear (and see) that some of the members finally got to meet tank to tank er, face to face. You two may start a trend.
If anyone ever turns up in the Joplin, MO area, let me know. First beer’s on me.
just a quick question guys:
i am an modeler returning to the hobby after a lengthy hiatus.
so far i have built a couple of those things w/ wings and props, but i am interested in trying some armor. i have begun to accumulate kits, in the time honored fashion of modelers everywhere.
i have some concerns as some of the techniques are a bit different, and my hair is beginning to recede. [:D]
will building treaded things accellerate this ? [:)]
hope to get some tips from the pros!
ed.
btw - J-Hulk: i posted a ? for you on the Auto forum a few days back.
if you have time, take a look. thanks.
I’m glad everyone is enjoying the pic … it was a lot of fun to indeed meet someone that was before just a bunch of words in a post. This site here at FSM had really turned into a IMHO a great place. The friendly atmosphere is a great encouragement to other modellers and to myself.
Now onto the subject of scale figures. I’ll only speak for myself here and Bill can throw his comments in later when he gets home. I agree that they have to be natural poses. The most natural pose for myself would be bellying up to a table at Tony Roma’s on “all you can eat rib night”. It just don’t get more natural than that.
Any others going to be in the Edmonton / Red Deer / Calgary area in the next while, drop me a line.
I know where most of the Shermans are.
To add to the list of viewed vehicles yesterday. Centurians by the handfull, D7 Cat with scraper, Universal Carrier Mk.II, and a German leFH18 10.5cm Howitzer.
Awesome Rob, it is great to see guys getting together. Wow you guys are old. I knew Shermie was pushing it, but never thought Bill was up there also. Since we are on trying to put faces to the names…he is a pic of me and wife. This pic is about 5 months old…she is 7 1/2 months pregnant now [;)]
Moses,
this warning comes too late,
but being a dad is going to really cut into your modeling time!
but i am told there may be some benefits to balance this.
congratulations,
