Cleaned my workbench and put the ICM D-18 on it. I’ll be taking pictures for an article, so that will slow me down a bit. To me the engines are not quite up to the molding quality of the rest of the kit, so I bought Engines and Things resin engines for the build.
I don’t suppose you post WIP pics, but I for one would be interested in seeing some.
Twin Beech’s have some sentimental value to me, and I’ve never seen a nicely done model of one. Wouldn’t know where to start, myself.
Don, I too am looking forward to this build. I’ve had my eye on this kit for a while now, well before the review that Tim and Aaron did for FSM. Just a nice, clean looking cool aircraft

Just a warning about a problem for those intending to build the kit. The cabin windows mount very nicely, with a flange around them and recess for the flange in fuselage sides. But the cockpit side windows- very nice molding- do not have a flange but rely on a strictly butt joint to fuselage sides. And, the fuselage sides are getting pretty thin at that point. I always use epoxy to glue transparencies in, and while handling one of the fuselage sides broke the bond along part of the window bond, in spite of being super-careful when I glued it in. So be super-super careful bonding in those cockpit side windows! The fit is good, but the gluing area is tiny.
I am trying to fix the problem with strips of .010 x .060 strips. These will make a slight flange that hopefully will support the expoxy joint better.

We would like an update. Is there any progress?
Progress has been slow. Was in the hospital for awhile with cancer surgery (successful). Hoped to do more modeling during home recovery. Doing some, but not as much as I had hoped. Model is in painting now. Need a flawless gloss black for alclad, so it does not look much different from day to day.

Surgery recovery is faster than getting a good black gloss enamel paint job, so it will still be a few days. Fortunately, nothing in the recovery that restricts me from working in shop except for frequent runs to bathroom.

Got the first good coat of gloss black finished yesterday. It is in the drying oven now. Maybe I can get a shot today.
Okay, here is a shot with the first good gloss black coat. Trying to decide whether to sand and recoat, or sand plus a glosscoat at this point.
I know it isn’t a very good picture- used auto setting and got lousy depth of field- should have used aperture priority. Anyway, a solid gloss black paint job isn’t going to reveal much anyway. Finish will be polished aluminum Alclad, to represent a restored actual plane.
Are you preparing to coat it with Alcad?
