Tuskegee Airmen P-47D Completed!

Built this one for the GB as well as to add to my collection of Tuskegee fighters. So far- the P-39Q, P-40L, and now 47D are completed! I must say- this Tamiya kit in particular was a treat to build-- everything fit like a puzzle (well-- except maybe the canopy!) While the color scheme was based on hard evidence (crew chief accounts)- the presence of some of these markings, like the squadron insignia, is purely hypothetical. I’ve seen pics of 99th FS pilots with their insignia on the plane, so I did the same for the 301st!

And a closeup of the insignia:

Nice Thunderbolt. A fitting tribute to the Tuskeegee Airmen.

Woooah… what a nice Jug!!! A fitting job indeed, Jeeves, thank you for sharing your beautiful build!

Take care.

out standing build Jeeves [tup]

cheers mike

Great work Jeeves.

Very nice build Mike. Love those red tails.

Regards, Rick

Another very nice build! I take it a Tuskegee P-51 is next on the list?

Mark

Nice Jug and red tail.
Ever thought of posting your collection of redtails?

Nice build of a Red tailed Jug! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys!! It was a pretty easy build as compared to the last one with the Devastator. Appreciate the comments Darwin, Frank, Mike, Dan, Rick, and EC!

Mark-- yessir-- I plan on building a -B soon…

wibhi2… Well-- the P-39 and P-40 are necessarily “red-tails” as that didn’t come about until they started escort duties. Here are the previous builds though-- more red-nosed I guess [;)]

Thanks again guys!

Good job onthe tusky jug, Jeeves. Can’t wait for the AM red tail mustang to come out. You’ve definately done it justice!! Were did you get the decals?

Great build! I’m almost finished with my P-47 for Capt. Pruitt’s “Alice Jo”, just waiting for the decals for the nose. I hope mine turns out half as good.[bow][bow][bow]

mike as always very impressive work. very impressive.

joe

dragonfly…

The fuselage numbers were ripped from the Hasegawa Hellcat kit…and I made the insignia on my printer. The rest are the standard Tamiya Razorback decals.

didfal-- Can’t wait to see your take on it!! Looking forward to seeing the NMF Jug…

Thanks joe-- we all progress together!

Great looking Jug there Mike. [tup] Wish I could have participated in that build but as always. Too many models… so little time!! Thanks for sharing.

This week I’ll finally add the decals to my Spirit of St. Louis version. You’re dead right about that Tamiya kit; it’s one of the best OOB kits I’ve ever worked on.

I love a Jug in red

Thad

Looks good Mike.
Leon

I agree with all the above. Very nice, Bill.

Thanks Dave, MrBee, Thad, Leon, and Bill.

Kind of cool to do a scheme that had only minimal amounts of documentation…I do wish there was more info on the Tuskegee Thunderbolts, but I guess since they only flew them a few weeks- there wasn’t much time for pictures!
