So, I’ve applied a tupenoid/oil wash over a future clear coat. The turpenoid seems to have reacted poorly with the future, leaving greyish looking streaks all over. So far no amount of buffing or rubbing has made a dent. Is this a typical reaction? It was four days drying time for the two coats of future, which I have used many times. However, I am new to turpenoid. Any advice appreciated.
Did you give the Future sufficient time to fully cure…and isn’t the ideal of using the Turpeniod mixed with some oil paint to create such weathering effects?
The future had four days to fully set up. Plenty of time I would think. As for the effect, this particular wash was for panel lines and the vast majority was wiped away. It was this wiping that produced the streaking, producing an unwanted effect.
I usually use a blotting method to remove excess…otherwise if you do wipe…remember to wipe fore to aft parallel to the air flow. For static type leaks and drips make sure you take in consideration the stance of the parked aircraft…a tricycled gear will have a different pattern than a tail dragger.
Also you can apply the wash to the panel lines using a drafting pen…this gives you better control and less residue to remove.
Thanks for the advice. The problem I have is that the streaking is not paintfrom the wash. It seems to be the future itself that has been “damaged”. I’ll just have to live with it I guess, as I’m way past the point of repainting. I’ll just roll with it and see what I can create from it. Thanks again for your time.
there are two turpenoids out there, both bottled turpenoid and according to my bottles, both made by the same people.
yellow-ish turpenoid will eat just about anyting and I use it as a brush cleaner after several paint sessions. I learned this the hard way. It ate through Dullcoat with no problems.
Clear turpenoid doesnt seem to affect clear coats and i use it for my washes.
