Was wondering if any of you have used Hobby Exteme’s or any other brand of tungsten weight putty in plastic models. I don’t want to seal anything up in an aircraft nose that may soften the plastic over time like some other putty and clays I’ve used in the past.
If you have a Golfsmith store near you, get the powdered tungsten used for weighting club heads. It can easily be poured intothe nose of an aricraft then sealed with a bit of clay or some thick CA glue.
I’m a fisherman. I use tungsten for most of my weights. It is pretty expensive. I don’t know if I would use it to weight aircraft. For me I’ll use up my old steel and lead weights for the planes and buy the tungsten for fishing. JOHN
John,
Your right about the cost, $5 for 1 oz. That’s why I only bought a 1 oz package. As few aircraft as I build though (I’m more of a ship person) I thought I would give it a try and see if it would work or see if it would react to the plastic. I’ve got some lead wool (similar to steel wool) that I will keep using.
