Trumpter A-10: Resin cockpit or photo?

I’m about to purchase this kit and in doing some research, have found that Eduard makes a photo-etched kit for the cockpit. I’ve also found that Cutting Edge makes a resin kit to replace the Trumpter cockpit. What would be the best to go with?

Would it be wiser to buy both and then use the photo-etched parts in the resin kit? Also, any additional aftermarket kits you guys may know about, please let me know. Any info or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am currently working on the A-10A N/AW by Trumpeter, and I went with the Verlinden set. It comes with both the PE and Resin parts, and just looks beautiful. Take a look at it sometime. www.verlinden-productions.com

BTW, isn’t the kit tub just AWFUL? Not to mention the pilot…

Demono69, thanks for the reply. You like that cockpit set better than using the two kits I mentioned together? It looks to me like the resin portion of the kit isn’t as detailed. What kind of parts count does it have? Thanks again.

I have the Trumpeters A-10 as well but I picked the Cutting Edges interior to use.
Over all I like the way they resin interiors look and also to me they are esier to work with(basically more forgiving[;)])
I dont know but PE and I really dont get along. Well most of the time that is[:p][:p]

72cuda- Thanks. I’m probably a bit premature in getting any info, as I have not yet even bought the kit. However, if possible, I’d love to know what a common load-out was. I guess that may be difficult as I’m sure there were varying missions, but weren’t AIM-9’s almost always loaded?

The parts count for the 2 seater detail kit stands at around 150 or so. I’m not sure with the single seat set. I do know that the cockpit from the Verlinden matches the reference photos of the Hog pretty closely. I’ve had alot of fun building it. It was my first full resin/PE kit, and I ran into no problems in the construction.

Verlinden makes all those parts for hte A-10 as well. Including avionics bays and such.

The Verlinden set is #1691 for the avionics bay and #1690 for the cockpit (#1706 for N/AW variant.)

I was reading that the A-10 model itself has good detail of the cannon, but has no access to see this detail. Do any of these kits allow you to “open up” a door or access panel to see the cannon? The avionics bay kit maybe?

Most of the aftermarket kits give you a resin flash suppresor to put ion place of the kit one, allowing you to build the cannon and display it external to the aircraft. The cannon is quite display worthy, and is very detailed. If you want to leave it in, the Avionics set does come with a replacement door for the bottom of the aircraft, allowing you to display a small portion of the Avenger, but I would still recommend displaying it outside of the kit.

is no ECM or AIM-9’s , 2 mk-82([}:)]in our case 1 mk-82 & 1 GBU-12), 2 AGM-64g-2([}:)]also in our case 1 AGM & 1 LITENING II POD), 7 W/P(white phosepheris) 2.75 FFM’s, 4 SUU-15 I/R Flares, and 290 aaa flares[:D]

the reason for not using a full load is that the air gets really thin at 120+ degrees here, and we just don’t have the runway here for the Hawg to get airborne, but the plane was designed for European weather not desert heat, but there’s so ausome things coming down the road for the Ole Hawg in the next few years, the first will be a Glass Cockpit, and more updated avionics plus I heard they may even be replacing the engines with more thrusting ones but we’ll see it when it comes,
also for your A-10N/AW version the center line pylon used a radar pod on it that was about the same size as the old Navy’s WWII wing tip radar but a touch longer, I don’t know if the kit includes this important item, if you can there is some pix of the last A/C while on flying trails and it has some really good views of this pod

I’ve seen photos of the pod, but I haven’t checked the ordinance in the kit to see if it’s included. I’ll have to do some more looking around. I did happen to find the old Squadron A-10 book from the early 80’s, and it does have some very good photos in it. Dana, if you want some of the pics, I’d be happy to forward some of them to you, if you don’t mind B/W.

[8D]Demon; I got some pix from the old Modern Combat Aircraft that has the side view drawing of the plane with the pod, and so action pix of it too, I really don’t know if In Scale & Detail books has the pix of it too, I know some of the old Janes A/C books has it too, or hopefully some one in the after market detail kits has the pod included for the conversion or in the 1/32 kit case has in their detail kit
