Went down to the LHS today and found my buddy Mr. Hara, who works at the shop, just finishing up putting a primer coat on Trumpeter’s new 1/35 KV-1.
Man, is it nice! You get a choice of belt-style or link-and-length tracks, and I must say those L&L’s look fantastic. The top and bottom runs are molded separately, and the sag is molded perfectly into the top run. You get individual links to go around the idlers and sprockets.
Mr. Hara is an authority on Russian armor, and he said Trump really did their research on this one. No accuracy problems whatsoever, he says.
This kit also features some very thin moldings, so PE is not necessary.
The downside to that is you might break a lot of parts getting them off the sprues! Mr. Hara had no such problems, however.
This kit also comes with the most realistic tow cable I’ve ever seen. It’s metal, but it is very malleable. Nice!
Anyway, I’m not really into WWII Russian armor, so I won’t be picking one up, but for you KV fans out there, here’s your baby!! [:D]
Sounds like a pretty nice kit Brian! Thanks for keeping us in the loop. It’s always good to hear first hand what some of these kits have to offer. Semper Fi, Mike
That’s what I wanted to hear. Been waiting for a new one for years. Wonder what it will cost in the states? How about ejection pin marks? Anything noticable? Tracks and tow cables sound great. Definatley a notch up from my disappointing Abrams of theirs that I built.
Thanks for the heads up Brian. I have been wating for the new Klim’s for some time now. Unlike most, I mainly model Russian armor so I am extra excited about Trumpeters new KV releases.
I haven’t seen Trumpeter’s KV-I yet, but the other week I got its KV-II along with German 12.8cm “Sturer Emil” and JGSDF NBC Dectection Vehicle. All three now are in my modeler’s hand. They’ll probably be finished by mid July (along with 2 other armors and a diorama). In the mean time, I’ll make a new page available on Monday 4th July, showing 2 newly-released Russian armors from SKIF namely T-64 BM2 and MT-LB-ZU-23-2, a SA-2 Guideline 1:72 from GRAN, WWII German Machine Gunner & Luftwaffe Ace Pilot 1:35 from Tamiya, a Sd.Kfz.25121 Ausf. D “Drilling” from Dragon and a diorama named “German Anti-Tank Gun” using AFV Club’s Sd.Kfz.251/1 Ausf. D + 7.5cm Pak40 + Dragon’s German Infantry (Ukraine 1943) + Italeri’s Church Door. I’ll take their pictures this coming weekend.
