I read that same book! I try to read everything that I can about the naval war in the Pacific. The anniversary of the Battle of Midway is coming up soon.
Much like the fleet submarines of WWII!
I read it as well and I’ll highly recommend it to anyone interested in naval history. Hopefully someone will cut a kit of a square bridge Fletcher class destroyer along with the decals for the Johnston.
Actually the “D-shape” tub was unique to MINY modification work. No other yard adapted modifying the centerline tub between 53 and 54 mounts.
In all of the photos that I have they show the chain for the starboard anchor routed from the anchor, around the capstan in a counter-clockwise rotation and then into the anchor pipe. They then show the port anchor chain routed from the anchor directly into the anchor pipe.
Can someone explain to me how the port anchor is raised?
I’m following your build closely and I’m getting excited because my Fletcher kit is scheduled to arrive sometime on Monday!!!
Looks like a good base kit to model many of the class, with aftermarket help, of course.
The kit’s turrets look a bit off. But we can help with that.
Has anyone posted pictures of their build yet?
I admit to being a book hound and have put my hands on a few volumes that address the Fletcher Class, both regarding their build, fitting out, and armament, as well as the class depicted in models. I have uploaded pictures of what I have collected over the past few months as my interest in building a model of a Fletcher Class destroyer has grown, principally for the experience of working with photoetch details which I have not worked with before. There is information here that goes beyond my modeling ability but it is informative none the less and each book is a good read.
