I started this Build a little while so I thought I would share my Build with you. The Hull and Main Decks are together. The Main Deck is not glued completely as I am doing it in sections. My 1-350 Hasegawa Yukikaze is in the background to give her size some perspective…
Main Hull Colours have been added and prelimanry Superstructure Work has been started…
After 4 Hours of masking and 5 Minutes of work with the Airbrush, all moulded on Deck Fittings are now done. Moulded on Anchor Chain has been sanded off and Hawes Pipe and Chain Locker Openings have been drilled out to accept some Aftermarket Chain…
Main Deck Bulkheads have now been added and to say the fit was ordinary is being kind. The Fit is woeful. Lots of filling and sanding to be done to get them to look presentable…
After a lot of Sanding and Painting, I am now able to mount her on her Stand to continue her build…
A Note for anyone who is wishing to Build this Kit using Photo-Etch, The Area on the Boat-Deck, that is circled in the Instructions, is actually a Hatchway with a Canvas Cover. Trumpeter have Moulded it to the Deck as you see in the following Instructions…
I removed that part of the Deck and sanded it to shape to accept P/E Hatch Coaming and surrounding Stand that the Canvas Cover was attached to…
Finally, I placed the Boat-Deck on to check it’s fit before continuing…

Sure admire the attention to detail, but don’t you think that at that scale someone could use a good brush and something like a postcard to help with straight lines and simply hand brush it? Not quibbling mind you, just want to understand the approach. I’m beginning to like ships - they don’t have cockpits to mask, landing gear or very many decals.

Thanks for the comments Eric. You could do it that way if you wish but I decided to try this Method. I have attempted what you have suggest but a very steady Hand is needed. You could mask around each individual Moulded piece of Deck Equipment and paint it that way, but I have always found that there is a slight variance in the finish of Hand Painted to Airbrushed when they are close together. In the end though, each Person has their own way of doing things and if that makes them happy with the outcome they achieve then good for them…Cheers Mark
Hood’s Shelter Deck has now been Painted and is Test Fitted into Position. Rigging Holes have been drilled into the deck to accept the Retaining Straps for the Ship’s Boats. More to come soon…Cheers Mark

I have’nt been able to do much lately because of that dirty 4 letter word called W.O.R.K. Have started adding the Ship’s Boats to her Boat Deck. I Have not glued the Boatdeck down yet as I wish to make it easier to attach her Boat’s retaining Straps. More to come soon…Cheers Mark
