Just picked up this kit a week ago. What a kit ! Some of the other manufacturers could learn something from Trumpeter.
Hi Markiii,
I know so little about this kit as I have’nt seen here in the UK yet, would you mind telling us a little bit about it? For example, does it come with a weapons load? What options does their decal sheet give you? What is the cockpit detail like?
Any info would very welcome,
Darren.
After spending all weekend trying to figure out which of the 60 kits on my shelf I’m going to tackle next, I read this post giving me the incentive to break out the SU-27UB Flanker C that has been sitting on my shelf for the past 5 years. You are right Mark, it appears to be a very well made kit. One thing I noticed however, is that the top half of the fuselage and wings appear to have a rough texture. Does yours have this too? or is it some sort of defect with my copy as the bottom is perfectly smooth? Darren, In answer to your question, yes it does come with a full load out of missiles. However the cockpit is very basic with very poor detail on the instument panels. I also discovered that my kit did not come with “soft rubber like tires” and Photo Etch parts that are listed on the box and in the instructions. It does appear though that the plastic version of these parts are included. the kit comes with only one set of decals which is for a plane camoflaged with light blue, dark blue and blue gray with the number “66” on the nose and tail. Well off to start building, we’ll see how it goes! ![]()
I’m anxious to get my hand on that kit.
I am anxious to get my hands on that one too. As luck would have it I have way too many kits in the ‘kit closet’ waiting to be built so it will be a while…
Well, here I am about half way through this build. This has to be the worst fitting kit I have built in a long time. All the flap are molded in two pieces that once combined are way to thick. The main wings, which are molded as part of the fuselage, line up poorly and the opening in the wings are to big for the flaps that go in them so there are wide gaps. I think it will look great once I’m done but there is a ridiculous amount of trimming, filling and shaping needed. I sure hope the Trumpeter RA-5 Vigilante I pre-ordered for $75.00 is of better quality than this thing is.
are you sure you aren’t putting it togethter backwards? Trumpeter kits almost alwasy have perfect fit.
Wait a second are we talking about the 1/32nd scale or 1/48th? The 1/48th is a older kit but the 1/32nd just came out. Hopefully Sol or someone will make conversion sets to make it a Su-37 or Su30K naval in 1/32 as they did in 1/48th.[8D]
Most of the fit problems are with the fuselage/wing assemblies. My model has been sitting on the shelf for at least 5 years and being that it is a softer plastic, I wonder if the parts are just sagged out of shape? Now that I have those two pieces joined, trimmed filled and sanded, the rest is going together great.
1/48
it’s crap.
I’m not a serious modeller. I’m mind not much about some detail lacking. But all Trumpeter made from the very soft plastic. For the big scale aircraft I worry about the weight because the wheel struts made from the same material. And in Thailand has always hot (Thailand have 3 seasons hot, hotter and hottest) The vinyl tires are always melt in the long time. I found that from the vintage kit.
narete, in singapore we have 2 seasons : hot and humid ! i have the same problems with heat too.
Yes, it is the 1/48th scale SU-27UB that was released in 1999 that I am building. Sorry for the confusion, I didn’t realize there was a new release.
it’s not a new 1/48. it’s a new 1/32
I was refering to the new 1/32 scale Flanker by Trumpeter.I think you are talking about Academy’s old kit in 1/48 th scale.
I posted this before I saw all the replies on the subject.
