Trumpeter Piranha

Read the review on Perth Military, highly recommended. Wondered if anyone has started or build this kit as of yet and how the fit was and the rubber tires and what the thoughts are?

I know there is the camo paint sceme, anyone know if there is a desert sceme also?

The only things I have heard about is is that it lacks the M240B mount on the commander’s cupola and an M240 coax. Also not really an issue, but would have been nice to have, it is missing the spare tire, as seen on the box top.

Couple guys over at M-L have also stated that the upper and lower hulls do not line up well and upper hull warpage, others have had no problems.

M-L posts about posssible problems:

I haven’t started building yet, but looking at the parts “in the box” (it’s right here in front of me now).

The upper and lower hull parts are packed together in the one bag and on my example the front edge of the upper hull appears to have suffered a little in transit and is a little ragged.

Dry-fitting the upper and lower hull parts (still in the bag, just sitting with locating pins in their holes) does leave a slight lip visible at the front. However it should be ok with a little sqeezing and coaxing when you come to glue the two parts together.

There is a little front-to-back warpage of the upper hull - it’s not sitting flush and there are a few visible gaps. BUT having said that, careful alignment, gentle clamping and gluing in sections should be able to overcome this.

As to the rest of the kit, I’ll find out when I build it I guess…

Seems Trumpeter is getting a bit better, grey plastic in their new kits now, but it does seem they rush things a bit and the quality could be better, guess we can’t complain too much with the low prices of their kits, I would rather them take a bit more time and have quality more matched to DML though.

I haven’t built mime yet, either, but my upper hull was smashed. I had to order a replacement, it was so bad.

I rememeber your post jason, it’s gotta suck to open a new kit and find it all busted up.
Gino, do you have any pics of the M240 mount and any ideas on how where to find the M240 itself? It seems your the guy for modern armor thats why i asked you.

Here is the LAV-24 w/M240 on commander’s cupola. The M240B can be found in the Dragon Modern MG set by the European designation L7A2. You would have to scratch the pintle mount. There is also an extra M240B in the Trumpeter Challenger 2 kits. If you wanted the dual hand grips for an M240G set-up, like in the two bottom pics, you would need to add those as well. No kit comes that way.
