Trumpeter naval aircraft question

So my continuing Project continues… I’m working on a Trumpeter Hornet to Enterprise conversion and while waiting for some Photo etch parts I ordered to arrive I started assembling the wonderful Trumpeter Aircraft. I’ve pretty much decided on the deck load of planes I intend and am marveling at the wonderful detail in the little airplanes but then I came to a delema. Weapons… No Torpedoes or Bombs for my Devastators and Dauntlesses! Has anyone else addressed this or know of a third party source of 1/350 scale aircraft weapons? What methods have been used in the past to represent these weapons? Thanks for any info!

Hey Jon,

I’ve actually though about casting some up in resin… let me see how my schedule works out over the next week or so.

WOW, would they ever be small. Unless a strike was imminent, it would be to dangerious to leave them loaded on deck. Also during that time the common procedure was to store the planes on the flight deck. The hanger bay was considered to be a maint & repair shop, and not a storage space. However during the Hornet’s “Doolittle mission” they stored the airwing in the hanger bay except for 5 Wildcats that were kept on the forward flight deck for emergency CAP/Defense.

thanks for the info. they may be small but I think they are pretty noticable when you look at them. I think Torpedoes on the Devastators would look pretty serious. I’m thinking of two different deck loads and haven’t decided. One would be the Enterrprise’s histroical first deck load at Midway. I don’t have my references with me but it was a dozen or so wildcats followed up by 32 or so Dauntlesses. However I really like the Devastator model so I may do a more representational deckload with Wildcats, followed by Dauntlesses and then Devastators. Both would represent the ship right before a launch so all the bombers would already be loaded for bear.

Jeff let me know when you cast them, and the price , I would be very intrested in picking some up for my ship as well, heck who knows you might even be able to make a business of casting resin for ship…

I see these 1/350 scale ships loaded with the PE crew. It would look neat to have them arming the planes for the strike on the Japanese fleet. Go for it.

Hey Richter,

I’ll cast 'em up for my friends, but I’m OUT of the resin ship business. I did it for 3 years (Accurate Image Models) and it’s not my idea of fun…you wanna kill your desire to work on a model?? Try casting kits for other people…(shudder).

I’ll do some measurements and fire up the lathe sometime this week. Torpedoes and 500lb. GPs.

In the meantime, check out Tom’s Modelworks!! My good friend Tom Harrison has already beat me to it!!

I noticed those too, after I posted. Tom even sent me some pics of the 1/350 scale sailors and Deck vehicles. They look pretty sweet. Did not see what the aircraft support set will include though.
