Trumpeter Is-3M heavy tank

Hi from the wild west of Ireland, Did IS-3M tank have all steel road-wheels like box-art depicts or did it have rubber tyres? FSM review Feb.2003 depicts tyres. Anybody know for sure?

Hmm, not sure. I thought it has full steel weels, with no rubber contacts. I’m looking at the sprue right now, no rubber contacts on wheels.
I"ve seen a few built-up models, and all featured all-steel wheels.

john j. boyce hi,
[#welcome] to the forums!
i’m with zokissima here…pretty sure it was all steel wheels. how does the kit shape up? i’ve got 2 dragon IS offerings (is-2 and is-152) and whilst looking good they are going to be a pain in the behind as the upper hull is too low, and you can barely get the tracks on!![:(!][:(!][:(!]
regards,
nick
ps and yes, i’m still smarting from the rugby[V][V][V], but i’d still rather be world champs!!!

Dia dhuit!

Definitely steel in 1945, when they first came off the line. The wheels were replaced in 1948-9, I think, but I don’t recall if they had tires on them. I don’t think they did. The big wheels on a T-34 gave a REALLY uncomfortable ride w/o tires, but on the smaller IS-3 wheels it wasn’t as important.

Not to question the expertise of the good folks here, but I suggest you post on Missing Lynx’s Allied WWII and Modern message boards – Steve Zaloga visits fairly regularly and should be able to help you out.

Good luck! Go n-éirí leat!

I’ve been looking at the pictures that I have for this tank (both on my pc and a few books) and haven’t seen any IS-3m’s with rubber on the wheels. I believe all of the IS series of tanks came with steel wheels.

Mr. Boyce, I completed that kit and published pics. Here’s the post:

Have only seen steel wheeled versions.

Thanks to all who replied-I’ll go with steel wheels. Dia is Mhuire duit Larry, slan.
