Trumpeter F-100 C kit

I 'm on my 7th F-100 C kit. I’m from Sioux City and making them for our guys. Is there any way to make the canopy stay open or am I doing something wrong in my old age?

Not sure if you are talking 1/72 or 48, I have both, checked the big one to see what they have. Doesn’t look like there are any stock parts to hold the canopy open.

Check out F-100.org/hun007.shtml for pics. Whatever the mechanism was, it is under the aluminum. I’d think if you took some plastic stock (maybe even use some sprue) and made a couple of parts, you be done.

I’m in the process of building up Trump’s F-100C, 1/48th scale - kit #02838. What I plan to do to have the canopy in the open position is the following: After gluing parts A-2 and A-3 together, and painting, instead of gluing it to the back of the seat - as shown in step 1 - I’m going to glue two pieces of small diameter alunimum wire to the bottom of A-2 and attach it to the clear canopy. Then I’ll attach the two trailing pieces of wire back of the cockpit underneath of the top of the fuselage. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. If I were to try that it would be open all the time and easy to break off. The only thing i’ve done is leave it off completely and it’s up the customer whether he wants it on or off. I don’t think I am in your league as a model builder. At 75 the eyes and shakes make the landing gear doors the hardest even with those magnifying lenses I wear.

If you want to have a go at a little scratchbuilding, I posted a scan of the page from the F-100C parts manual that shows the canopy mechanism. It’s about halfway down the page of my review of the Trump F-100 kits here: http://www.zone-five.net/showthread.php?t=14940 .

HTH.
