Trumpeter’s kit #00383, E 25 in 1/35th scale is the subject chosen for my first work in progress. The parts are cleanly molded and the pre-build fit is pretty clean. There are a number of options given for this “PAPER PROJECT” as in engine deck and fighting compartment covers. You are also given the option of rubber/vinyl or plastic link to link tracks which are nicely detailed.[IMG]
Now the basecoat and camo colors have been added. I made my own schurtzen I started this project back in March, I am a little slow on the assembly line so have patience, I hope to have this finnished in two to three weeks.
This particular piece belonged to the reformed 16th SS PzGren Div “Reichsfurer-SS” 1944-45 to the new 19th SS PzGren Div 1945-46, which defeated the Russians in Berlin in 1945, facing overwhelming odds the reformed 19th using the new top secret E-series the E-10 and E-25 tank killers and the heavy tank E-100 (they had 23 E-10’s, 17 E-25’s and 12 E-100’s all equipped with night vision scopes) pushed the Russians back to the Motherland in an unbelievable defeat. The Germans also recieved and used in this battle 173,000 freshly trained troops from Argentenia. Man, I might just be a writer… NAHHH!
Looking good!![tup] It’s a great little kit ,isn’t it. This is a funny thing, I just finished mine and just got done posting pics of it like a minute or two ago. I like the scratched schurzen and the camo looks good too. I also enjoyed your little “what if” story that goes along with it. Can’t wait to see her finished. [:)] Great build!!
The schurzen were made outof .005 evergreen plastic and the mounting arms were made of .010 brass with boltheads added. The tracks basecoat is Floquil weathered black and the main colors are ModelMaster II enamels. I am now applying a splinter ambush scheme over the camo. Thanks for the replies guys.
If you build this you will want to shim the gun trunnion so it will stand up on it’s own, check out that pic.
Bish, no I do not have the E-100, But! I did pick-up a E-10 for $19.00 when I went Scalefest in North Central Texas last month.
July 1st, Have just finnished the splinter camo-scheme and should be able to glosscoat tommorow if life does’nt get in the way.
Here’s the progress on her as promised. This my firsrt try at a 3 tone camo, let alone with the ambush scheme thrown in. This took me a few hours, and it was fun to do. Next step is to shoot the glosscote in prep for the decals.
I just thought of something that I need to paint before the glosscote. Does anybody know what color the periscope lenses shood be?
Thanks MadMike! I made cutouts with a #11 blade on .010 white Evergreen plastic sheet. Then held the template as tight as I could against the surface of the E25 and shot them at 10#'s of air pressure.
Guys I need to know what color to paint the periscope lenses.
Thats looking very good indeed. That was a nice buy with the E-10. Its just a shame Trump didn’t do as well with the E-100, but luckly the DML one gas been re-released.
Very nice ambush scheme. I like what you did with the leaf pattern. Very nice. Might have to add into your story line, because I do have the monster E100 by trumpeter. The one that is inspired by the Tiger II turret. Was looking for something to build next.
Doc, the actual periscopes themselves should be the bakelite color, the glass faces would be clear of course. The armored covers (u-shaped brackets usually) would’ve been hull color or camo painted as the case required. When painting the hull, the periscopes would’ve been removed (they were retractable/replaceable) for obvious reasons.
Since my last report I have glosscoated (MMII Laquer base), decaled and shot a protective glosscoat over the decals. Hopefully today I will be able to apply a few filters and maybe a pinwash later in the day.
