I first posted this as a WIP about a month or so back, and despite the lack of posts, have finally managed to wrap up the main build.
It’s the trump 1/35 kit with a few scratch built extras, mainly the gun cleaning tube, made of brass tube and spare PE, the Jabo screens, and the mounting ring for the IR aparatus.
The tracks are the one piece vinyls that come with the kit, and are probably the weakest part of the build for me as I’ve used indy link or link and length in the past and much preferred them.
I still need to put together a crew, hence the empty hatches, but they’ll have to wait for another day.
I’ve gone for a dusty late summer look, imagining the E100 loose on the Russian Steppe in the summer of 47.
The dust is Mig Productions European Earth applied with a spirit wash, then re-wetted and removed, or more wash applied where more was required. It’s not a technique I’ve used before but I’m fairly happy with the results.
That would heave a different outcome it one of these behemoths were ever on the Steppes. LOL
Like what you did with this Karl. That’s really a shame about the tracks. I would’ve thought that Trump would have learned from either Dragon or now Tamiya on tracks.
Now, 'ya gotta get 'ya some better tracks because this build definitely deserves them, seriously. The link-n-length ones from the earlier trumpeter (E100) offering would be a VAST improvement.
Mikey, I usually spray tracks with Tamiya NATO black as a base coat.
I then spray a selection of browns in a random pattern over the tracks.
Next up I dry brush the treads with Tamiya Metalic Grey, which gives a metal look, without being over the top.
I then apply a wash of Mig pigments, and once that has hardened dust off the excess, or re-apply the wash where more is needed.
Once that’s dry I give the treads another dry brush with a metallic, before dusting off track teeth guides etc with powdered graphite.
Tigerman, I know what you mean,I built the trump KV a few years back, and that had link and length which worked fine, as well as vinyls. Why the backward step, go figure.
DM, I did find an advert for some resin indys on line, but was unable to find anyone with them in stock. They would certainly be a major improvement on these.
Karl- The finish on this model is remarkable! The rust effects and dusty finish are especially noteworthy. Thank you for explaining your techniques on the tracks, I will try that one on my next armor build. Again, spectacular build!
