I´ve just ordered my first RA-5C vigilante ever. I´ve bought this big one from interenet shop. I´ve no experience with Trumpeter´s kit, especially in 1/72.
I´m far from the Czech republic ( middle of Europe )[:0]. And this kit I´ve just mentioned is a hot brand new one in this country.
One is on the way to me from Hobby Link Japan. I’ll provide remarks on it shortly after receipt.
In the meantime Steve Ginter has released Naval Fighters Number Sixty-four on the A-5A and RA-5C. I’ve got a fairly extensive file on the aircraft and this 169-page monograph contains almost everything that’s in it and some things, like additional pictures of the bomb/fuel tank assembly, that aren’t. Lot’s of pictures, diagrams and illustrations.
Tomas,
Welcome. Almost everyone here in the U.S. is waiting for the 1:72 Vigilante. I’ve got shelf space already reserved! I understand it will be available in the U.S. sometime around May or June. I have heard some pretty positive remarks about Trumpeter’s 1:48 Vigilante, so we are all hoping this translates into a decent 1:72 models as well![;)]
Some of the larger internet stores like GreatModels.com and Roll Models are allowing pre-orders for the kit already. When you get your kit, give us an advanced preview! Frank
Hey fellas, I’ve got the 1:48 Vigi and, it IS a monster!! Well detailed, especially the engines!! Can’t wait to get my hands on the 1:72!! Anybody got an extra copy of the minigrah 9??? I had one but, got waterlogged a few years ago & is ruined. I’ve a pretty good data base of Vigi info. Will order the Ginter book soon. Sounds like a winner.
Eddie
The various pre-release reviews all seem to be quite positive about the smaller Vigi.
I would love to add one to my stash, but I have more now than I will ever build, so it is sort of like an exercise in futility.
I´m back. I´ve just received my brand new 1/72 RA-5C and it´s pretty hot. When I´ve opened the box for the first time I´ve thought to myself HOLY SHIT!, this kit is really good value.
The part are very well done and they have no defect. The panels are done in negativ and they are bloody well detailed. Simply, from my point of view the kit has no mistake.
Another step will be the completing of the kit, so I´ll report later.
The decal are done for two wariants each with the light gull grey and white camouflage. Decals are for RA-5C from RVAH-3 Sea Dragons ang RVAH-5 Hoot Owls.
Ypee, this bird is big one, except my 1/72 B-52.
So see you later guys, I´m lookin´forward to complete this kit.
Glad to see your so happy with the kit cunas. BUT! to save yourself some trouble on this site you’ll have to watch your language. No Swearing. Just a litle heads up.
I just bought the 1/48th scale and cant wait to start on it myself. I think in about 6 months the local hobby shows are going to have to have a table just for all the Viggies that are going to appear. Enjoy your build.
Hey Tomas, RVAH-5 is NOT the “Hoot Owls” It is the “Savage Sons”. My uncle had flown with RVAH-9 " Hoot Owls" he was lost 16Jan66 in the RA-5C BuNo: 149312. Keep us posted on your progress on the model. I got the 1:48 myself. Haven’t started it yet, waiting to see what detail sets will come out first![censored]
At first I have to apologize for my language, but I was so excited about this kit.
to Hippy-Ed : I´m sorry. I have made mistake the second options for RA-5C is RVAH-9,
You are right.
Be sure that i´ll report about my built of this kit, but I have no digital camera since it has broken. This kit seems to be very good value, I was very surprised about how the kit has been packaged, this was done very gently and precisely, its quite unusual in europian kits ( Revell Germany, Italeri etc. ). BUT I´ve a big dilema, the RA-5C is a unique plane with cool shapes, on the other hand the kit is really well detailed so there is an option to built the plane with folded wings and tail direction indicator ( I hope this is the right word in english ). And with opened cockpits. I would like to built my kit as much detailed as possible, but I don´t want to disturb the unique smooth shapes of the RA-5C.
I hope that when I´ll finish this kit, it will look gorgeous next to my A-7e, A-6, F-4 and F-8.
