These '50s-era jets are my favorites! I’m a big fan of the Panther but I’ve only built the great Monogram versions. How does the Trumpeter compare to the Monogram one?
I’ll be following this build! Can’t wait to see your progress on this.
Yeah, his work looks really good…me, I probably would have just shaved the side edges of the cockpit tub a bit so that it was not too wide for the fuse to go together…
Trumpeter offers the F9F3 and F9F4 and Monogram’s kit is an F9F5. The Trumpeter kit has recessed panel lines and Monogram’s has raised panel lines. Monogram also offers a photo-recon version. The Monogram kit fits very well and there are no major acuracy issues that I know of. The build looks good so far and thanks for the warning on the nose.
The hassle with reducing the size of the cockpit to bring the middle dection of the noe together leads to the very front nosecone not to fit and this will sand a lot harder around the installed guns
Anyhow no big problem, I now need to re scribe the lost detail.
The wings have been assembled and I decided to drop the flaps on them to give a bit more feel to it. The detail on the wing side rib of te folded wing is basically zero while the fuselage exposed rib has a little detail, I will have to put some work into these areas as I intend to fold the wings.
My panther was basically ready to paint, all primed and sanded. I was clumsy and knocked over the bottle of tamiya thin cement onto the table, no big deal the model was not close to it.
Apon closer look I saw a nice big blotch on the windshield where a single drop must have landed melting a fat ugly spot into the “glass” section next to the framing…not sure it can be rectified
I got the worst of the canopy marks sanded and pollished out to an acceptable limit. Yesterday I started to decal, went on OK…untill I noticed that the nose undercart has broken off and is missing AARRG! the model seems cursed LOL
I will have to scratchbuild something to look like a nose strut.
Hey Boeta. I know the feeling - I just finished a Hasegawa Avenger that fought with me to the bitter end [:'(]. It does look good in the cabinet now though. Waiting to see that Panther finished - sterkte!!!
Glad to see you were finally able to beat this one into submission [:P]
Question about the nose, would you have been able to glue the fuselage and nose halves together, or were they opposite? I’ve got a build coming up that I may have the same issue with, just curious.
I’m glad you built it with the wings folded. First thing I thought was “that’s unique!”
