Hey Tom, 48 scale it is. 32 would be insanely big. The 48 version is already bigger than any shelf or display cabinet I have. For the Hun I used gunze acrylics. And that book is on my short list to read!
She is a beautiful build Nathan! Just curious though as to why you painted the front end of the Napalm cans in gray? That is something that I have not seen before.
Excellent work! She’s a real beauty!
Thanks Stik. I looked at a bunch of ref pics regarding the Napes. It seemed most had a darker nose cone, and it didn’t look metallic, more of a neutral gray, so that’s what I went with. Could easily be wrong, but not that big a deal.
Thanks Fly.
Supermodel!
Woooooow!!! The paint finish and the camouflage alone are da bomb!!! That’s not even mentioning all the detail wrapped up in this thing! Great build Nathan!!! [Y]
That is one beautiful planes, great job
John
Thanks guys. Glad you are all impressed considering i’m still new to building kerosene burners…
Looks great Nate!! =] I can see some really nice things going on with different aspects of the painting process. Any chance you could get a couple of brighter photos?! I hope to have such luck when I get to my Phantom.
Thanks Bvallot. I’m not so good at photos so I’m afraid I can’t do much better. Too crappy here to take it outside for pics in the sunlight. I have a few different Ott lights maybe I can set something up.
A Phantom you say huh? Tell me more…Reminds me I gotta update my F-4D wip[whstl]
Very nice,I like the look of the NMF at the rear.
Very nice Nathan! She looks great. I love the SEA camo, it always just looks right on a Hun. I’ve done the old Monogram F-100; a kit given to me by the pilot who flew her in Vietnam, Maj. Don Schmenk. The Hun has always been a favorite of mine. When I was a kid, early 60s I’d guess, I had a silver F-100 “toy” that shot a “missile”. Interestingly, it was just about 1/48 scale as well.

Wow very nice Gary! Did u extend the drop tanks on yours? How did u go the paint wearing effect on the rear?
and thanks Tojo!
Whoa, Nathan! What an outstanding job. [Y]
So glad you explained how you pulled off the paint burn-off at the rear, it was the first thing that caught my eye. Fantastic job on that, alone, mate.
Also your subtle finishing. Nothing overdone, looks just right.
Thanks Nathan, coming from a master modeler, that means a lot to me. When Maj. Schmenk sent the kit, he also included the instructions and extra tank parts to make the extended drop tanks, explaining that those were the type used in his service in Vietnam. I simply followed his directions as best I could.
It’s been several years since this build but best as I can recall, I painted the rear in aluminum first, then alternated some bands of gold and ModelMaster Jet Exhaust. Then, I covered the areas I wanted exposed (burned away) with rubber cement. After the finished paint was applied, I rubbed the rubber cement off. The paint really does look a bit too thick to my eye, but I decided to leave well-enough alone.
I certainly don’t want to high-jack your thread Nathan, but thanks again for your kind words! Your Hun is exquisite.[:D[
Gary
Ahh, rubber mask, looks good Gary. Certainly real close to the real ref pics I’ve seen.
And Thanks for looking in Greg. First time I’ve weathered a model in the SEA Colors. Glad you like it.
Excellent build, outstanding job on the heat discoloration! [t$t]

Hi Friend:
Ihave been watching your pics and looks wonderful and resplendent in SEA Cammo, particularly this one, veteran of Vietnam service.
Thank you very much for sharing!!!
Cheers,
Luis Alfonso
