What is this kit like. Is it worth getting
“Typical” of Trumpeter’s large scale kits. Numerous accuracy issues, overdone surface texture, inaccurate details. But in the end i guess it “looks” sort of like a P-51.
“Worth Getting” is relative… For me? No way a single-engine/single-seat fighter kit that’s upwards of 90.00 is “worth getting”… A good ol’ 1/32 Revell P-51B or Mustang Mk II for 25.00-30.00 is way better, IMNSHO… But I’m a cheap bassige anyway…
I’d be happy with a Revellogram re-issue of the 1/32 “silver” plastic version of their P-51 D so long as it’s less than the Phantom re-issue- which I have.
Still looks like a Mustang to me after all these years…
Chances are better they’ll re-box the Hasegawa kit.
Rivet detail is way overdone on the Monogram/Revell F-51D and Phantom Mustang, but that’s ok wit’ me anyway… It’s just a quick sanding and rescribing job…
Picked up the Revell re-release of the Phantom Mustang on clearance for 16.00 a couple years ago…

Was the Mustang’s laminar flow wing laminar or not?

Durned good price. I paid $4 more but it was the last one in my local area Hobby Lobby stores
LOL… Yeah, it does, but then, so does the 1/32 Monogram/RoG Phantom Mustang and the Monogram F-51D, however, the rivets are much finer and more “in scale” than the Revell kit’s… But in the 60’s that’s what modelers wanted, rivets!.. Rivets meant more “accurate and realistic” models, much like the "recessed panel-line craze today… It’s popular, it’s a “want to have”, modelers are yelling for more of them, but it’s not necessarily accurate…
I have some of the Revell P-51B’s but I don’t like the nose shape much. My plan is to graft Hasegawa D nose to it.
I too think that the Monogram D has the best shape of the 1/32 Mustangs. Still have one I built in 1967, and another in the box which if they can be found are not high priced, at least mine wasn’t. Wheel wells and other details do need a lot of enhancing but the cockpit is pretty detailed.
