trumpeter 1/24 bf109 g-6 machine guns

Hi guys!
I have just started the trumpeter 1/24 bf109 g-6 and i am very amazed with the high quality detail. I am in doubt about the colour of the machine guns.In the instruction book it says that it has to be painted black but I think they must be painted gun metal.I haven’t found any pictures on the net.Can anyone solve my problem please?
Regards Andrew.

I used to buy the gunmetal and use that, but always found that I was only using it for guns-- so it would always dry up well before I finished up a bottle. So now-- I use flat black and then rub some graphite from a pencil lead into it and always get a nice finish.

Sounds like a good idea Jeeves - gonna have to try that now. I have been using gunmetal paint for alot more than guns, but your technic sounds like it would get better realistic results.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot jeeves…i will try it out and post some pictures when ready

I think the guns looked more black as in my reference. Unfortunatley the kit has the G-2 setup for ammo shutes. The whole reason the G-6 had the bulges on the sides was for the larger ammo chute due to a larger gun. This shape is very hard to duplicate as it curves arround the motor brace. I am hoping some one will make a aftermarket one soon.[:)]
