I had trouble trying to get my aztec a470 to spray fine lines today without getting spatter. I experimented with paint and thinner ratios and pressure settings but all to no avail. I was using gunze with tamiya thinner then i switched to testor enamels with enamel thinner. But still no luck . I even played with the distance of the airbrush to the model.
I figure either my fine line nozzel ( 2 months old ) needs replacing or the humidity of the day was not right (Vienna, 15 degrees celsius ,overcast but no rain or moisture apparant. ) Do i have to wait for a warm sunny day in the upper twentys with no humidity ? I have plenty of airbrushing experience and i’m by no means a novice but today i just" lost the plot and went mentals " Help me my hairs falling out !!! Peter
well, practice practice practice as they always say. but it is an aztek so it probably has nozzle problems. as usual. I used to use one too…
Thanks tankmaster but i have plenty of practise under my belt .I think it could be clogged or worn out nozzels also . I just read on this forum about Atzek airbrushes working fine one day and then not the next due to nozzels not being clean. I think i might try cleaning and soaking them over night in airbrush cleaner or lacquer thinner, Does anyone else have any suggestions ???
You should. I used to own an aztek (still do, but never use it) and the nozzles constantly clogged down on me. Since your a veteran airbrusher the nozzles are most likely the problem.
After searching through this forum ,i’ve read alot of posts about people being unsastisfied with their atzecs. I’m beginning to agree with you ! I’ve had to send mine in for replacement because of a hissing leak and like many of you have said, one day it seems to work and others not so well. I’ve painted some nice finishes with it but many days i’ve had to ressel with it to.I used it for about 5 years now and simply put up with the problems asuming that they went hand in hand with airbrushing.I’ve never compared it to any other airbrush on the market so i think perhaps its time for an upgrade. What are your thoughts guys ?
Yeah, I now own a badger 155 and love it. It is more complicated (slightly) than the aztek, but it can spray a finer line, is more reliable and it actually atomizes the paint better too.

Try soaking it over night , then spry thinner and distilled water through it at a high PSI[25-35], that should dislodge any paint clogging the nozzle!
I would suggest a Badger if you are going to upgrade, my personal favourite is the 100LG which is excellent for spraying fine lines and is easy to clean and maintain.The 155 is also an excellent airbrush which is Highly recommended.

I can recommend Tamiya HG Double airbrush which is great in fine lines as well as in wide spray patterns. It is as good as Iwata but cheaper
