Troops

Greetings,

I’m looking for troops to support a HMMWV (Tamiya) dio.

Any ideas? Which models actually provide them?

Pictures of dios made using HMMWV are appreciated too.

Thanks [:D]

You can buy model kits of troops separately. You don’t have to buy a vehicle kit that includes them.
Check out squadron.com.

Tamiya makes a couple modern infantry sets. Most hibby shops have these kits, or you can search for them easily enough at your favorate online store. There are also many resin kits available from various manufactures, but selecting those depends heavily on how your diorama is going to be set up.

Dragon also has some really good modern infantry sets that could be used with just about any hummer in a dio. Your LHS, Squadron, GreatModels or any other on-line establishment should carry them.

Can you give us an idea of what your dio is going to represent? Time, unit, theme, anything?

Thanks guys,

Well, i’m planning a dio with troops on the offensive. It’s going to be a simple dio, a hummer and few men. Very much like a dio i saw some time back. Couldn’t find that site where i saw it.

Will find it and show it to you guys [:)]

What time period are you wanting to depict? Makes a diference because of different uniforms and body armor from ODS, KFOR/SFOR and OIF timeperiods. Also, the area of the world will make a diference on uniforms as well. DML makes figures that will work for all the above time periods as well.

We need some more info to give you some figures to choose from.

oops, haha, it’s supposed to be a modern day dio. maybe the iraqi war or something

That narrows it down some. For modern troops, the only options in plastic are the DML Modern Marines and the Trumpeter USMC Iraq kits. Modern soldiers (from about 2000 on) wear the new Interceptor Body Armor (IBA). It looks kinda like police body armor with a bunch of loops all over it to attach gear to. The above kits are the only ones in plastic with IBA. Also, even though the boxes say USMC, they could also be Army troopers, the gear is virtually the same.

Trumpeter USMC Iraq:

The Dragon ones are much better than the Trumpeter ones.

There are a few modern figs in resin as well, but they are pricey and I would not recommend them for your first few fig builds. Some who make them are Think 180 Studios, Warriors, Verlinden, and a few others.

Another option is to take the Dragon Modern Marines and swap their modern, IBA clad torsos out with some of the older Dragon Operation Desert Storm (ODS) era figures with PAGST vests. With a little torso swapping, the figures and poses are pretty much unlimited.

Good luck.

Thanks HeavyArty, it has been very useful. All that information provided.

Whats a hibby shop?

Sorry Just had to make a joke.
