This aircraft started as a single-seater, and made its first tethered flight in May 1947, and its first free flight on August, 1947. The designers drew and adapted on the experience of other engineers who had pioneered the application of jet principles to helicopters during the war, and testing continued for four years. One of the two prototypes was modified as a two-seater and, like the single-seater, proved generally satisfactory. However, the unusual propulsion system had excessive fuel consumption, which drastically limited range and endurance when compared to conventionally-powered helicopters. The program was terminated in 1951. The first prototype was preserved and is now part of a museum collection.
